I was having a conversation with some lads in the pub tonight about the stick we were getting off all fans at the end of last season, with Portsmouth, Chelsea and Hull fans 3 clubs out of many with no links to us singing anti Newcastle songs. One of these lads supported Leeds and he said that they recieved the same sort of reaction when they went down, with teams that have no relation to them enjoying their downfall. And then we got onto the subject in hand...I stated that I thought Leeds were universally more unpopular than Newcastle, and expected everyone else to share this opinion, so i was shocked to find that most of them thought that Newcastle were less popular than Leeds!

Got me wondering, up in Newcastle it's hard to gauge how unpopular we are cos almost everyone here is a Newcastle fan, so...truthfully who would you say is/was hated more? Leeds United or Newcastle United.

I'm genuinely very interested to find out who comes out on top in this.

Newcastle don't have enough charisma to be hated but I think alot of people have a soft spot for Leeds so I will give the nod to Newcastle.

I don't hate Leeds really, and Newcastle are just laughable. Any fans who claim to be the best in the world (without a hint of irony) deserve to be hated (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_mrgreen.gif)

The thing with these two teams is that they have enthusiastic, in my opinion slightly delusional, support, especially in Newcastle's case. Throw in that many people find it funny when a 'big' team is relegated and you can see why it turned to giant pisstakes when they were relegated. People know they will get a rise out of their fans because of their fierce support.

Tbh I will quite enjoy the stick being thrown at us this season by other Championship fans, just makes it feel all the sweater when you come away from somewhere like Preston or Blackpool with 3 points!

Yeah we already got a taste of "You're not famous anymore" off the West Brom fans (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
And I think i'm expecting a better atmosphere from home fans when we travel away in this division because of that very point juvejay.
