Viola's Papa Waigo joins Saints

Fiorentina have announced a very late transfer deal, handing forward N’Diaye Papa Waigo to Southampton.

The deadline was on Monday at 18.00, but it seems this agreement squeezed through at the last minute and was only officially confirmed today.

“Fiorentina announce they have loaned N’Diaye Papa Waigo to Southampton on a temporary basis,” read the club statement.

“With the 39th sale, we conclude our summer transfer campaign.”

Papa Waigo is a 25-year-old Senegalese player who first made his mark at Verona before moving on to Cesena, Genoa and Fiorentina.

He never really settled at the Stadio Franchi and spent the last six months on loan at Lecce.

Nominally a forward, he can also play wide midfield and was even experimented as a full-back.

Yes, he played a handful of games for Fiorentina in Serie A, then on loan to Lecce in Serie A. He actually scored past Juventus for Fiorentina last season, and in 2006-07 season he scored home and away against Juventus in Serie B, he always seems to score against Juve lol.

He is a tricky, skillful player, not really a goalscorer but can certainly unlock a team and if he has stayed fit and fancies it he could be a star in League 1 this year.
