Rangers have made a bid to capture the signature of Kilmarnock striker Steven Naismith, BBC Scotland understands.

The offer, thought to be in the region of £400,000, is well below the Ayrshire club's valuation of Naismith.

Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston said in April they wouldn't sell the exciting 20-year-old for less than £1m.

Naismith hit 18 goals for Killie last season and received his first call-up to the Scotland squad for the Euro 2008 qualifier in the Faroe Islands.

would be a good signing for Rangers but i have read reports that Kilmarnock will reject any approach as they want to keep him

I thought Jeffries said that nobody had actually made an offer?

this is why i really hate the old firm they think that they can get players from other scottish teams on the cheap no matter the true value of the player. Steven Naismith is one of the best young players in Scotland and is worth at least £1m(although having said that when he played against us, Morton, in the Scottish Cup he didnt impress laugh.gif ). dont mention scott brown and over£4m to Celtic that is surely a one off wink.gif

It's not going to change though, it's always going to be Celtic and Rangers raping the other squads because they are the only option if you want to move but stay in Scotland. I suppose it always comes back round to taking the Old Firm out of the SPL, but even that wouldn't achieve anything other than weakening the league for everyone else. Vicious cycle, I tell thee!

Is there any Rangers fans out there daft enough to believe that this lad will sign for you? You offer just £400,000 which is instantly rejected by Killie and that bid is quickly followed up the next day by a £1.7M bid by an undisclosed English side which is also rejected! So do Rangers have £2M in the bank to pay for him? NO! I have a close family member who is deeply involved at a high level within the SPL & i was told over three months ago that no matter how many new players Walter Smith wanted (which was 6 in the end by the way!) he would not be allowed to spend over £1M on a single player this summer (for those who do pay attention David Murray has repeatedly stated that even after two trophyless seasons the days of spending big £ on players has long gone, their transfer budget has to match their profit margin, his exact words were "we must live within our means from this point forward & invest wisely in our squad"), i was also told that Rangers have used derisory offers for quite a few players over the last 18 months to fool their fans into believing that they can compete with Celtic, the first deliberate offer was placed very late on the 31st Jan 2006 for Derek Riordan which was only £350,000, they new that Celtic had already offered well over £500,000 for him so instead of the newspaper headlines the next day saying "Celtic sign Riordan" it said "Celtic just pip Rangers for youngster", their fans believe that their club have tried to get the player but were unlucky in the end, this has been the case now since David Bain first attempted this back then & it will continue for the forseeable future, eg Pizzaro signing on £40,000 a week, players like Alan Smith, Steven Naismith, Jamie Callagher, etc all being linked with the club. The majority of Rangers fans swallow this crap & still believe that even although Celtic have at least £15M (from this seasons Champions League run) in the bank for players they will still match them in terms of players signing, even over the last few weeks its obvious to everyone else that the two Glasgow sides are so far apart that Rangers dont have a hope in hell of catching their arch enemies anytime soon. cheers.gif

Further proof of the gap widening....

CELTIC'S DOUBLE ITALIAN SWOOP
£5m for Donati and Delvecchio
Exclusive by Colin Duncan
CELTIC are close to completing a £5million double swoop for Serie A stars Gennaro Delvecchio and Massimo Donati.

Talks to bring the Italian pair to Parkhead are already at an advanced stage and manager Gordon Strachan hopes to have them on board at the start of next week.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell promised supporters the spending would continue after the arrival of Scott Brown, Chris Killen and Scott McDonald and last night he proved as good as his word when the champions tabled bids for Sampdoria midfielder Delvecchio and AC Milan winger Donati.

The arrival of Delvecchio, 29, would be another major coup for Celtic on the back of Brown's £4.4m signing.

Delvecchio won his first cap against Croatia last year and has been part of the Italy squad for four of their last five Euro 2008 qualifiers.

The 6ft 3in hardman, sent off last season for head-butting Marco Materazzi, spent a decade in the Italian lower leagues before making his Serie A debut for Lecce in 2005 then moving to Sampdoria.

why go back to a thread from 4 years ago to make a comment to a guy I dont even think posts here anymore?

I'm scanning through to see how young players turned out, (and enjoy a bit or irony at some of the laughable opinions that were made at the time). Why reply to a post made in a thread with a reply to a guy who posted 4 years ago? ... icon_mrgreen.gif

The SFA have made it clear they dont want their players involved, it threatens the future of our national team.

this applies to Jamie Mackie(although he is no real loss to the national team)and James Forrest who also said he was interested.

the Northern Irish FA and Welsh FA dont want their players involved either.

do people really trust FIFA that oh so honest organisation to keep their word that they wouldnt force a Team GB to compete at other tournaments if this is deemed a success.

There will never be a GB football team replacing England, Scotland, Wales & Norn Iron.
Let the players go to the olympics, it's there only hope of winning something at international level.
