From what i saw of him last season, i don't think he'd cut it.

I'd love him to prove me wrong and do it with leeds though.
Proud to be Leeds
He's the Thierry Henry of League One, and as the article says he needs to improve a lot yet. But I don't see why not.

he couldn't even hack the championship

What he said.
Leeds Lad
are you saying that you don't think he could do it in the champtionship, or that when he was with leeds a few seasons ago he couldn't?

If you just don't think he could make it in the championship, on what grounds>

As for under leeds a few seasons ago, he was VERY raw having just come from non league, he was chucked in at the deepend in a very shit leeds united team, which ultimately get relegated. 'superstar' david healy was shit then, never mind a none leagie player. A couple of seasons on after a bit of nurturing and having been loaned out a couple of times, he's not a regular in our team, having scored 20 times last season in the prem.

He wouldnt have a chance in the premiership imo...

So that's a no then?

Personally i agree that currently he is not good enough for the prem. There's a hell of a lot of work for him to do.

In his defence however, this is going to be only his second full season as a professional. He's been playing non league football where he was superstar, he could take people on and score for fun, now we're just trying to get the best aspects of his game out of him, and trying to get rid of all the stupidness that he could do as a non league player.

Beckford didn't grow up in an academy like most players, therefore he still has a hell of a lot to learn.

I think there is a lot of potential there. However currently not good enough for the prem. A few more seasons with proper training, then he might do a job in the prem?

For the avoidance of doubt however, i would just like to stress that IMO he is currently no where near good enough for the prem!
Leeds Lad
just scored a lovely hat trick, allbeit against a poor chester team.
Proud to be Leeds
He can definitly finish clap.gif

He looked good last night, only against Chester, but his finishing was bang on.

yeah, the opposition has to be taken into account, but all 3 goals were quality finishes. I don't think any keeper would have saved the last goal. superb strike!

poor mans akpo sodje, very overrated player

anyone ever wondered why there's been no interest from anyone?
Leeds Lad
There has actually.

as i said above, he's still very raw and has a lot to learn, but he's going the right way about it.
Proud to be Leeds
No interest?

How about the scores of clubs who were in for him in the first place.?

Or Scunny have two or three bids turned down? Same with Norwich as well...
wednesday4life
scunny- showing alot there. obviously a world beater if they wanted (ages ago) to have him

I think Macca is a member of FC. He said everything i said (highlighted) in the above post last night after the game. it was the ITV verson if anyone saw it.

i was reading one of the fan sites earlier today which claimed that we had a good bid turned down for him in the closed season. dunno if there's any truth in it though

you changed the goal posts there didn't you.

you said "no interest", clearly there has!
wednesday4life
ages ago really doesn't matter

that would be like claiming interest in kenny lunt
Proud to be Leeds
A few weeks ago isn't ages. Neither is one season.

Of course there has been interest in him, I would say having offers on the table equate to a gaged interest.

I don't think he's good enough for the Premiership, but I am sure a few seasons ago, people might have said the same about League One. If we get promoted, I'd like to see what he's capable of but I think this might be his level to be honest. He can definitely outsmart most League One defences with his finishing, but he's not what I would call a 'complete' player. He doesn't work hard enough, he's a ball watcher and although he can feasibly score a goal out of nothing, he doesn't go out of his way to make things happen without the ball being fed to his feet and I think you need more qualities than just being a good finisher to make it in a higher league.

He's still going to bomfunk this league though...

as i said in an earlier post, he's still learning as he's only been a pro for just over 2 years. Do you think the likes of macca can add the extra qualities needed?

ah, only two years- obviously he has plenty of time then

if he was any good, after two years he'd be well rid of weeds

my point was, he hasn't had the nurturing all the other players have, so obviously he's gonna be raw.

no one is saying that he is good enough for the prem so there's no need for you to do all your anti leeds crap in this thread.

wendy, have you seen his hat trick on tuesday night?
wednesday4life
leon clarke could manage a hat-trick against chester- not really showing anything

agreed that chester are a poor team.
But you can only score against the teams that are put infront of you.

i mean, atleast we didn't get beat by a team 2 leagues below us.

They weren't three tap ins though. Every finish was a top quality finish. Thats what sets him out as a talent.

Chester are really poor, they were beaten 6-0 by the Daggers previously.

I would also argue that a finisher is a finisher at any level, players like Kevin Phillips show that, Beckford did nothing in the CCC.
Proud to be Leeds
He played about 3 times!!

But to be fair, today showed why he has a long way to go.

Doubt he ever will hes to weak on the ball at times like he was today!!

I think sometimes people get carried away, often when teams/players are in good form.

I actually think one coach that couldn't help Beckford much would be Mcallister, who clearly concentrates most of his efforts to midfield. That said, I'd be happy to be proven wrong on about that. If he works hard though, he shouldn't need Macca's help.

From what little I've seen of Beckford, he's completely different to Sodje.

Wasn't he in Chelsea's academy?

He's coming up to 25, not many players improve the amount he needs to between 25 and 30.

He was at chelsea as a kid, didn't make it and then went in the non leagues. he was banging them in left right and centre in non league so we took a punt on him.

When he first came to leeds, having just jumped 8 leagues in the space of a day, he wasn't ready to play, but blackwell chucked him in anyway and looked totally out of his depth so we loaned him out, got his bareings and he is now scoring quite a few for us.
