Just made a U-19 team I tried out for last week. I've been running and doing sprints all summer leading up to the tryouts and that really helped my speed and stamina! It's gonna be a Classic 1 or 2 team, so it's a really good team, just a year ago I was at the State Rec Tournament, so to be near Classic 1 is great!

I've got the right-back spot on lockdown! So if I wanna start, then I could start in that position. In the tryouts I got up and down that right side and put in some great crosses. First half of the scrimmage all our attacks came from me crossing the ball and someone even scored off one of my crosses haha! icon_mrgreen.gif Then in the 2nd half I sent some great through balls and just kept possession really well. Can't wait though, but I think I'm gonna play right-midfield instead!

Best of all, no more Tigres team, that season sucked, it started ok but then it got really bad, too much fouling going on in that league. red.gif red.gif

I wouldn't say Frankie, cause I didn't do much defending, but if I could be half of what he is, then I'd take it!

Thanks C. onethumbup.gif

Most here would tell you that neither does he. tongue.gif

We play the same position, Cesc. icon_mrgreen.gif

However we have very different styles. You play more offensive minded, while I play much more defense and pick and choose the times I go forward down the flank. I'm much more conservative though.

Haha, I don't know why I picked Right-Back, but I'm liking it a lot. When he split the teams up he said he wanted Defensive Midfielders and Defenders over there and Strikers and Attacking Midfielders somewhere else. I went to the defensive part because I thought I was gonna be a Defensive Midfielder in the center, but oh well.

I know I can start in the RB position, but we'll see about Right midfield, I just can't wait to play!

That's how I play when I'm in the right back position. My coach likes me in the center back position though because I "remind him of Michael Parkhurst". Go figure.

Anyways, congrats Cesc. Good luck with everything. I've got to start getting myself into shape for college.

Oh great. Now we have to play favorites between G and Cesc for the future RB of the US nats. biggrin.gif

Calderone if it ended up that way and I was that close, then you know I'd take it every time. icon_mrgreen.gif Just kidding G.

ncsoccer how old are you anyways? You play?

I'm 18. I'll be playing in college this fall. Before that I was captain of my first division classic club team.

But shifted to CB you only have to worry about Onyewu, Parkhurst, and Conrad. icon_mrgreen.gif

Good luck to you. Try out for a USL team and see if you go further when you're not playing in College. Did you get a scholarship to College playing soccer? Did you play High School Soccer?

I'm on academic scholarship (full tuition for four years) but the coach offered me a roster spot on the soccer team as well. Yeah, I played high school soccer but my coach and I didn't really get along that well. I started most of my senior year at right mid, but his strategy was to force everything up the middle of the field and use his outside mids as basically another outside back who just happened to get up into the attack every now and then.

You're telling me. Me and the HS coach don't get along at all. I quit the team this year and I've got 2 more years left in school, whether he'll let me back in or if I even wanna go back is another story. Really I don't want to go back, but I hate how everyone plays school soccer even though they don't like it. I don't how clubs stop their seasons in the Spring.

Our problem was that his system got results because we had two all-state strikers up top and two all conference center mids. However, me and the other outside mid got screwed out of any type of all-conference awards because of how his system worked.

I'm going to tomorrow to sign for the team, but I don't know how much this will cost. I have a feeling it's gonna be a lot of money (around 300-500) and I don't know for sure that I'll play if it's near 500. sad.gif

but I'm hoping it's not cause a lot of people there weren't exactly wealthy either (a lot of hispanics...LOL not being mean, but I doubt they could afford it either...) I mean I could afford it, but wasting money isn't exactly what I want to do...
Oni
I went Monday to find out how much it was and to sign up and discovered the prices.
  1. $120 for the League Registration.
  2. $78-87 for Uniforms yikes.gif
  3. $100 for Mandatory Team Camp
  4. $45 every month for the trainer coaching us in practice! WTF!!!
  5. $25-50 for Tournament Entry Fees
  • League Registration is a good amount.
  • Uniform amount is freaken crazy!! WTF, they better be professional kits if I'm gonna pay that much!
  • Fcuk the camp, it's basically practice for 3 hours every day for 5 days. If you don't show up, you don't have to pay. So whatever on that.
  • And what makes me mad the most is the freaken Trainer Fee every month. There's 2 seasons (Fall & Spring) and if they think I'm gonna pay 45 every month for about 6-8, then they can forget it!!!

I haven't registered yet cause I needed a parent to sign something, but I don't know anymore. And fcuk when I got there, I saw players that shouldn't have made the team! ranting.gif There's gonna be 20 people on this team, I'm not worried about my spot, but it looks like they're just trying to make money!!!!

I don't even have a job yet and if I don't get one, I can forget this. I've tried to get a job though. I've sent in so many applications to different places and none have called me! I should have applied before the summer, but I didn't and now it's hard getting a job anywhere.

At least you'll have bomb-ass uniforms. icon_mrgreen.gif

Welcome to the world of competative youth soccer in the States. If you are on a good team that travels, just wait to see how expensive that will be. It is a huge investment.

I got half-price off the registration and I'm pretty sure the trainer's fee will lower now. So it's not too bad now.

Plus I finally got a job, so this isn't gonna be as much as I thought.

I made a thread about it here.

well didn't this season go great grin.gif

we started off really strong and everyone showing up to practices and games won every game till the 5th game of season. We played against our main rivals in the league who had also won all their games, so this would decide who pretty much gets the league title.

I started Right-Midfield and we started off well and went up 1-0. They came back later and it was 1-1 at halftime. Was a really intense game, then in the second half the ball was loose at the top of our box and their big black (icon_mrgreen.gif) midfielder hammered a low shot that barely escaped our goalie's hands and they went up. Still an intense game till the end, they sent a long ball and one of our defenders gave them the ball when our goalie was way out of his box and they took a long shot and scored 3-1 in the dying minutes.

after that game, well everyone gave up and stopped coming to practice, we lost our edge and even though they slipped up and lost a game, so did we. Oh well, wouldn't have mattered cause I was the only one on the team that was a junior and everyone else would be too old or moving on to college, so wouldn't have made a difference if we won or not, but it would have been nice to compete through the whole season instead of just half.

I'm moving on to Classic 1 next season anyways, gotta find a good team to tryout for, but I know I'm in!
Oni
just a little update since this whole thing

I went to 2 tournaments with two-different Classic I teams in Tennessee and Florida in December. I'm confident after the tournaments that I can compete in a Champion Classic I team next season. And I played in my original position back in Center Midfield, I'm never playing right-back ever again, I'm way too good to be defensive. icon_mrgreen.gif

I didn't see much difference in individual players skill, mostly how well the teams play together. but first I can't wait for State Cup 2008 red.gif red.gif I know it's extreme wishful thinking, but making it to Nationals in Little Rock, Arkansas this year would be incredible! I know we can win the U-19 state cup, but I don't know much about Regionals after that.

Too good to be defensive?!?!?! Damn, hope you aren't drafted by DC United roflmao.gif

Seriously, you may find out that you are like me...offensive until college and then converted to a defensive player. No shame there. Good luck, this year will be big for you.

I've already thought about that. I'm not really worried about it though, if it happens, it happens, but I'll still be attack-minded.

But at the beginning of that season at the tryouts, the coach wanted all the defensive players on one side and the attackers on the other to split us up. I was gonna be a Center Defensive Midfielder, but I ended up at Right-Back somehow. I still started over half the games in right/left midfield and I created some brilliant plays if I do say so myself icon_mrgreen.gif

Anyways the main reason why I PM'd you BK was after you won the State Cup (if that's what you called the Championship). Didn't you go to Regionals after that? Then after that should have been the US Youth Championships where the top 4 teams from Regions I, II, III, & IIII compete?

Yes, I went to regionals 2 or 3 times. The best we finished was 4th one year. The winners advance to nationals.

What is your team seeded in the State Cup?

Hmm, 4th?....was your team by far the best in GA though?

I don't know, we still have to have the Play-In Game to make it the Cup. But our coach says we have the quality to win it, he says he has no fear over Atlanta Fire United, Lightning, and Concorde Fire. He's a USSF National B coach and he thinks we can definitely win it. We've got some really good talent in all positions, LOL our right back is a better freestyler than me. icon_mrgreen.gif

But he never mentioned anything after the State Cup. He said something about Nationals, but I don't have much info on Regionals.

Wow, thought they would pay you to play, those are disgusting fees.

http://www.southernregionals.org/

Found that site and u18 Atlanta Fire United 89 Elite won it last year, but they didn't even make it to Nationals. Dallas Texans 88 Red North (N. TX) represented Region III in Nationals, so there's a lot more games you have to play.

This looks really tough now. But I guess we better just look for the State Cup cause freaken U-19 AFU Elite is gonna be there and they won Classic I this past season.

Yeah, we were the #1 seed most years but one time we were #2 I think.
