Singapore nearly scored from a corner. They've been all over us. Bresh has been the best player at the moment.
Vidua missed another good chance too.

Still 0-0 ? They should forget about winning the Asian Cup then.
sophie
Jun 30 2007, 12:27 PM
This is what I dont like about Australian football. We all are told to believe that we are the best team in the region and should comfortably beat most teams in Asia, but the thing is that we are pretty average and we rely on the 'big names', as opposed to working together to form a team.
DDK
Jun 30 2007, 12:34 PM
What type of formation are they playing and who are playing?
sophie
Jun 30 2007, 12:49 PM
Yellow to Vinnie Grella and another freekick in a good range for singapore.
DDK, I am trying to figure out the formation and the like - i'm flicking in and out of the game

Yeh it has been. It was a really scrappy goal, and they've not had that many chances. Mind you, I didn't see the first half, but to me we are playimng lazy.
Nearly scored again, goalkeeper saved a good shot by Bresh, Dukes got the rebound, but nothing happend.

Really scrappy defending. They keep giving the ball away to Singapore.

Singapore is really showing some flaws in our defence, time after time they get past, they just don't know when or how to shoot, so they end up loosing the ball.

Kewell is looking good

Have to say it was a rather dissapointing and boring game. We looked good towards the end, but that is because Singapore got tired. I'll post a match report later, but I must say that I was not impressed.

Woah we might not pass the group stage by the sounds of it.
sophie
Jun 30 2007, 01:40 PM
I'm probably being dramatic, but we were not that good. The defence was pretty bad, as countless times they got past them. If we were playing a team with more experience, there would have been a couple of goals. We were good on the counter, and Kewell, Emerton, Bresh and co linked well together. I am not happy with Viduka, but he links well with Harry so it could work. I'd like to see more of Archie Thompson though.
DDK
Jun 30 2007, 01:42 PM
Well it was there first match plus they have been training hard, twice a day in extreme heat. They should be right for the Asian Cup. The opposition teams would have sent scouts to watch us play, I wonder what they would have thought.

Australia grind out 3-0 friendly win over SingaporeReuters
SINGAPORE, June 30 (Reuters) - Mark Viduka scored a second-half double and Harry Kewell also got on the scoresheet as Australia ground out a 3-0 win over Singapore in a friendly in the city state on Saturday.
Australia, using the game as a tune-up for the Asian Cup, started slowly and it was the hosts who came closest to scoring in the first half.
Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer had to be sharp to stop Indra Sahdan in a one-on-one in the 38th minute and the Singapore striker came even closer five minutes later when his header crashed off the crossbar with Schwarzer beaten.
Australia stepped up the pace in the second half and it was not long before the Socceroos took the lead, with Newcastle forward Viduka heading home in the 50th minute.
Singapore pushed forward for an equaliser and Khairul Amri came close to scoring when his curling, left-foot shot came back off the post.
With Singapore leaving gaps at the back Australia made it 2-0 when substitute Kewell slotted home in the 76th minute.
The Liverpool winger then crossed for Viduka to head home his second in the closing minutes, wrapping up the scoring in the last game played at Singapore's National Stadium before it is torn down.
The Asian Cup, being hosted jointly by Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia, starts next Saturday.
Congrats my Aussie friends, hope you do well in the Asian Cup
