Any new stadiums being planned in Italy, JJ?
JuveJay
Only the developement of the Delle Alpi as far as I know.
That could look like anything, the plans have had to change because of the failure to secure Euro 2012.
viking
Palermo & Bari absolut good stadium
AlexRossi
Other then the renovations on Delle Alpi, which is supposed to be done for the start of next season, is there any word on anything new coming.

I heard Lazio is getting a 40000 seat stadium within the next few years, and Palermo may be getting a new on as well. Anyone know if this is true.

Also with the Delle Alpi, other then removing the track and bringing it down to 40000 or so seats is there anything else being done with it.

J.J. I don't know why it took me so long to post in this thread. As you know, many of these stadia were rebuilt or hugely modernised for Italia 90, the last World Cup tournament Italy hosted. I have a really soft spot for that particular tournament. It was so easy to be caught up in that incredible atmosphere, from Pavarotti's soaring tenor voice on Nessun' Dorma which caught the imagination of the entire western world (and beyond) to the people, the food, Italian television, the bars, the clubs, the women...and the football!

All under that brilliantly azure Italian sky...

Obviously I liked very much l'Olimpico di Roma and la Favorita della Palermo. Unlike many Juventini I even liked the old Delle' Alpi! I guess I can understand why you didn't post the San Paolo background. The stadium kind of pales by comparison to its surroundings, its setting with the bay and Monte Vesuvio behind! It was so sad to see the stadium fall into such disrepair after the club was forced to sell off that team of all-stars to try meet their heavy debts in the early 1990's...

I remember well the eldery and much respected English journalist of World Soccer magazine, Brian Glanville, who spent much of his working life in Italia tell us about Ferlaino, Maradona, the Camorra connections, the scandals, and even of the fans ripping off the club they supposedly loved. The question was, with such big attendances every matchday, why was there a cash flow problem in terms of stadium maintenance? Napoli was then Italy's fourth best supported club! (a position now shared by Roma)

Many of the "Portoghese," as the Toscano north insultingly refers to them had found ways of entering through the crumbling fencing, barriers etc, and therefore getting into the ground for each home game free gratis...
