Mourinho happy as Real Madrid defeat LA Galaxy

MADRID, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was content with his players after watching them win their first friendly game 4-1 against the Los Angeles Galaxy. Mourinho played two different sides in the game and saw new arrival Javier Callejon open the scoring. Youngster Joselu also got his name on the scoresheet along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema, as Madrid made light work of the American side.

It was an impressive display after less than a week of training and although he said he didn't want to highlight individual displays, Mourinho was clearly pleased with new arrivals, Callejon, Fabio Coentrão and Rafael Varene.

"Coentrão made an important contribution and that will help him adapt to the side and he had a good game. Callejon played well and Varene had a comfortable match and that is important. The new signings have shown that they have the legs to help carry this project forward," said Mourinho. "The differences between winning and not winning trophies are in the small details, In my first year we did well for a young team and a new squad," said Mourinho, who clearly hopes for better this time around.

"We are working well, we played with two good sides today and we still have Gonzalo Higuain, Angel de Maria and Nuri Sahin to come. We are working better all of the time and we will be there to compete. We are working with ambition and hoping to iron out the details. I don't promise titles, just work," concluded Mourinho.

It is pleasing to see our signings settling in, especially Coentrão who got his first assist for the club.

Great dribble from Crisitiano, but the shot should have been stopped. Poor positioning from the keeper.

Chivas 0-3 Madrid
Last updated at 9:36 AM on 21st July 2011

Real Madrid continued their fine form as they eased to a 3-0 win over Mexican side Chivas. After a goalless first half, Ronaldo came to life after the break and scored his hat-trick in a dazzling nine-minute spell. Luis Michel kept out two free kicks from Ronaldo in the first half while the forward wasted a good chance just before the break. But in the 73rd minute Ronaldo split two defenders, collected a Benzema pass that and fired past Michel for the opener. Just three minutes later Ronaldo converted a penalty when defender Pepe was brought down by Omar Areliano and he completed his hat-trick, blasting the ball home eight minutes from time.

'It took us a while to score that first goal because of the way Chivas was defending us," Estaban Granero said. Ronaldo added: 'We played well tonight, but we'll get better.' Mourinho said: 'We really haven't had our whole team together because of the World Cup, because of South America, because of injury, because of surgery. But with training camp this year starting from day one we've been working well together.'

Chivas coach Jose Real conceded: 'We went with substitutions with players from our league in the second half. We need to get them ready for the season. And we didn't play as well in the second half as we did in the first.' Mourinho's side continue their tour on Saturday when they face Philadelphia Union.

Varane had a good game in defence, and the team noticeably improved when Ozil came on. Coentrão was used in CM along Granero, which was interesting to see.

Madrid 2-1 Union

We played great to be honest... a ton of chances, probably more than Madrid... the difference was finishing though... the 2 goals we let in were the result of poor defending, and RM made sure to take advantage of it.

overall I'm very happy with how the Union played though. Farfan's goal was fantastic.

Thomas were you there? Curious to see who the crowd favored.
Thomas19064
^ wasn't there... but by the looks of it on TV... way more Madrid fans than Union fans.....

About 60,000 fans total at the game.. if I was gonna guess the breakdown looked like it was maybe 75% Madrid? tough to call though.... either way the amount of eurosnobbery makes me sick... I hope the Union won over some fans tonight with their play....

Someones Opinion on Twitter:

Last night's crowd: "I think the Union and Real Madrid were equally supported. Ronaldo groupies outnumbered us both."

Honestly sounds accurate judging by crowd reactions I heard.... you could tell that a lot of the stadium really wanted us to draw at the end there....

Hertha Berlin 1-3 Real Madrid: Ronaldo free-kick, Benzema double

Real Madrid win their latest friendly match against Hertha Berlin, on Wednesday 27/07/2011. The home side were better early on, and in the 18th minute Patrick Ebert gave Hertha the lead. Madrid equalized in the 30th minute as Ronaldo directed a freekick to the left corner of the goal, beyond Thomas Kraft. Four minutes after the goal Benzema gave Madrid the lead. Receiving the ball from Callejon inside the box, he deceived Kraft with a right foot shot. 2-1 at halftime.

Benzema gets his second early in the second half, thanks to an assist from Khedira. 3-1 at full time.

It was Madrid's fourth victory from four games during the 2011/12 pre-season. Los Merengues next match is against Leicester City on 30 July.

Leicester 1-2 Madrid

Callejon (who is having a great preseason btw) scored the first after fine work by Benzema. Then Coentrão set up Marcelo who hit the post; and Benzema knocked in the rebound. Lloyd Dyer scored a late goal for the English team.

A nice work out, and some spirited opposition to play against.

Guangzhou 1-7 Real Madrid

Easy victory against the Chinese champions. Goals from Khedira, Özil, Benzema (twice), Ronaldo, Jesé, and Di María.

Tianjin Teda 0-6 Real Madrid

Another stroll in the park. Goals from Kaka, Di Maria, Higuain, Ronaldo and Benzema (twice). There were plenty of substitutions, so much of the squad got some minutes.

This ends our tour of 2011, with seven wins from seven games.

Next up is the Supercopa against FC Barcelona.
