RIO DE JANEIRO, May 28 (Reuters) - A Chilean championship derby ended in an ugly brawl on Sunday after Colo Colo beat Universidad Catolica 2-1 to go three points clear of their rivals with two games left.

CHILE

Colo Colo coach Claudio Borghi appeared to be punched in the face as players and officials fought on the pitch following his team's 2-1 win over Universidad Catolica.

The two teams had gone into the match level on points and Colo Colo's win put them within touching distance of their third successive Chilean title. The Chieftains, who have lost only once in 19 games, have 43 points.

Shortly before the final whistle, Catolica coach Jose del Solar angrily protested to referee Carlos Chandia after his side had a penalty appeal turned down. Catolica also had Patricio Ormazabal sent off for violent play.

First half goals from Rodrigo Millar and striker Humberto Suazo put Colo Colo in command before Esteban Fuertes pulled one back in the 66th minute.

Colo Colo defender Luis Mena twice cleared off his line while Roberto Gutierrez headed against the post as Catolica pressed for an equaliser.

PERU

Modest Deportivo San Martin won the first stage of the Peruvian championship with two games to spare after a 2-1 win at Cienciano in a meeting of the top two.

Striker Hernan Rengifo put San Martin ahead in the 56th minute and, after Juan Gonzalez Vigil equalised two minutes later, an 81st-minute strike from Uruguayan forward Mario Leguizamon gave the visitors the points.

San Martin have an unassailable 11-point lead over Cienciano.

ECUADOR

Provincial clubs Olmedo, Deportivo Cuenca and Deportivo Azogues occupy the top three places in the first stage of the 2007 championship with two rounds of games to play.

The top three will qualify for the final stage at the end of the year along with the top three in the second stage, which is played from August to November.

Olmedo drew 0-0 with Macara, Cuenca lost 3-1 at Emelec and Azogues beat struggling Barcelona 3-1.

PARAGUAY

Cerro Porteno and Sportivo Luqueno both won to stay level on points the top of the Apertura championship.

Cerro Porteno overcame defending champions Libertad 1-0 with a second-half goal by striker Alejandro da Silva. Celso Ruiz Diaz and Maximiliano Bianchucchi scored to give Luqueno a 2-1 win away to 2 de Mayo.

COLOMBIA

Provincial club Atletico Huila stayed on course for their first championship final by drawing 3-3 at Independiente Medellin.

German Caicedo scored an injury-time equaliser for Huila, who twice came from behind as they stayed top of semi-final Group B with eight points from four games.

Millonarios are second with six points after losing 3-1 at defending champions Cucucta, who are third with five.

Atletico Nacional and Deportivo Cali drew 0-0 to stay level on seven points at the top of Group A.

CHILE

Colo Colo look set to win their third successive league championship, after defeating bitter rivals Universidad Catolica 2-1 in Santiago.

Rodrigo Millar and Humberto Suazo gave Colo Colo a two goal lead going into the break, while Esteban Fuentes added suspense to the match with a strike in the 66th minute.

Catolica came close to levelling the score on several occasions, but luck wasn’t to be on their side. Following the match, both sides entered a tussle and Colo Colo’s Argentine manager Claudio Borghi was punched in the face.

The victory lifts Colo Colo three points ahead of Catolica at the top of the standings, with only two matches remaining.

COLOMBIA

Atletico Huila could qualify for their first ever Colombian final after a 3-3 tie against Independiente Medellin.

Huila forced an injury time draw with a strike from German Caicedo, and remains in first position of Group B with eight points, two points ahead of second placed Millonarios.

Colombian champions Cucuta defeated Millonarios 3-1, and remain in third place, while Atletico Nacional and Deportivo Cali continue to lead Group A, after playing to a goalless stalemate.

PARAGUAY

Cerro Porteno and Sportivo Luqueno extended their leads atop the Paraguayan championship, after victories against Libertad and 2 de Mayo on the weekend.

Alejandro Da Silva’s strike in the 72nd minute was enough to give Cerro Porteno a valuable victory over a Libertad side that was recently eliminated from the Copa Libertadores, after a 3-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of Boca Juniors.

Luqueno, who share first place with Cerro, defeated 2 de Mayo 2-1 with an own goal from Celso Diaz in the 36th minute, and a strike from Argentine player Maxi Bianchucchi in the 78th minute, while Albert Irala pulled a goal back for 2 de Mayo a minute later.

Former Copa Libertadores champions Olimpia defeated Guarani 2-1, and climbed to third. Their goals were scored by Molina and Cristian Ledesma, while Cristian Sosa scored for Guarani.

PERU

Deportivo San Martin made history after clinching the Peruvian championship for the first time after a 2-1 victory over Cienciano in Cusco.

Hernan Rengifo opened the scoring for San Martin in the 56th minute, but Juan Gonzalez’s quick response just two minutes later put Cienciano level. Although the home team pushed for the winner, it was San Martin that came up on top, with a clinical strike from Mario Leguizamon in the 81st minute.

San Martin, who entered the first division only four years ago, have taken the Peruvian sporting press by storm particularly after having won the competition with still two rounds remaining, with only a restricted budget.

San Lorenzo on brink of Argentine title as Boca lose

BUENOS AIRES, June 3 (Reuters) - A late Ruben Ramirez goal helped struggling Colon to a 2-1 win over Boca Juniors on Sunday and left San Lorenzo on the brink of the Argentine championship title.

Colon gave a battling performance to allay their relegation fears, deservedly taking the lead on 37 minutes with a goal by Colombian midfielder Freddy Grisales.

Mauro Boselli equalised for Boca before the interval but Ramirez sealed the victory with three minutes remaining.

Boca started several first-choice players on the bench with one eye on Wednesday's Libertadores Cup game against Colombia's Cucuta.

San Lorenzo drew 1-1 draw at Argentinos Juniors on Saturday and are now within sight of their first Argentine title win since 2001.

A headed goal by defender Cristian Tula gave San Lorenzo the lead on 24 minutes but Sebastian Carrera forced a second-half equaliser following a goalmouth scramble.

The results left San Lorenzo on 39 points, four ahead of Boca Juniors with two games remaining each.

Third-placed Estudiantes have lost their momentum since midfield general Juan Sebastian Veron was sidelined by injury, and the La Plata club crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Racing Club on Sunday.

A first-half penalty save by Mariano Andujar was not enough to hold Racing at bay, and Estudiantes now trail San Lorenzo by six points.

Nuevo Chicago's relegation fears deepened following their 2-1 defeat at Velez Sarsfield.

Belgrano forced a 1-1 draw at Lanus but remained second bottom, ahead of relegated Quilmes.

River Plate's home match with Godoy Cruz will be played at a neutral venue on Monday as punishment for incidents of hooliganism involving supporters at the Monumental stadium.

VENEZUELA

Higuita returned to action on Sunday, just under three years after testing positive for cocaine for the second time in his career and being sacked by Ecuadorean club Aucas.

Higuita, known for charging upfield and dribbling past opponents with occasionally disastrous results, was twice beaten as first division newcomers Guaros were held 2-2 at home by Monagas.

Francisco Flores, captain of Venezuela's under-17 team, put Guaros ahead and Argentine forward Dario Gigena added a second from a penalty.

But Monagas hit back after halftime as Fabian Cuellar scored from a free kick which left Higuita rooted to the spot. The Colombian was also powerless when Alain Giroletti equalised with an injury-time penalty.

Guaros are one of eight additions to the championship which has been increased from 10 to 18 teams to take advantage of the infrastructure which has been left in place following the Copa America.

Deportivo Tachira made the most impressive start as they thumped newcomers Estrella Roja 6-1, helped by a hat-trick from Luis Manuel Seijas.

Defending champions Caracas FC were held 2-2 at home by Aragua after leading 2-0 with 10 minutes to go. Luis Cardoza put through his own goal and Jaime Bustamente added another for Caracas before Sergio Viancha and Angel Chourio replied for the visitors.

CHILE

Defending champions Colo Colo came from behind to beat Coquimbo Unido 2-1 and maintain their perfect record after three games of the Clausura championship.

Marcelo Corrales gave the visitors a surprise lead but the Chieftains, winners of the last three championships, hit back with two goals from Colombian midfielder Giovanni Hernandez.

Colo Colo top Group One, while Melipilla, Audax Italiano and O'Higgins lead the other groups.

COLOMBIA

Once Caldas notched their third straight win in the Clausura championship as they beat Quindio 2-1. Dayro Moreno and Wilson Mena scored for the 2004 Libertadores Cup champions while Ivan Jose Velasquez replied for Quindio.

Caldas are two points ahead of Pasto, Atletico Nacional and Chico FC.

Atletico Nacional, the defending champions, overcame Atletico Huila 3-2.

Bogota pair Millonarios and Santa Fe both lost. Millonarios went down 2-1 at home to Deportivo Cali and Santa Fe were left bottom of the table after losing 3-2 at America.

PARAGUAY

12 de Octubre held on for a 2-2 draw away to 3 de Febrero in a stormy match, despite finishing with eight men.

Furious 12 de Octubre directors ran onto the pitch to protest at the end and the referee left the field under a police escort.

Diego Martinez gave "12" a fifth-minute lead and Francisco Esteche added a second with a 25th-minute penalty.

However, the visitors had Hugo Notario dismissed in the 35th minute, Rodolfo Guillen on the hour and Mario Amarilla in the 86th.

3 de Febrero took advantage as Carlos Neumann and Esteban Ramirez scored in the last 15 mintues to give them a draw. The hosts also had Ramon Cacares sent off in injury-time.

Nestor Ayala scored a hat-trick, including two penalties, as champions Sportivo Luqueno began the Clausura championship with a 3-1 with at Sportivo Trinidense.

PERU

Universitario lead the championship's second stage after winning 1-0 away to Melgar with an 85th minute goal by Colombian striker Hector Hurtado.

Universitario played most of the match with 10 men after striker Johan Fano was sent off in the 12th minute.

ECUADOR

Barcelona beat arch-rivals Emelec 2-1 in the 176th Guayaquil derby. Former Boca Juniors striker Marcelo Delgado opened the scoring for Barcelona and under-18 international Miller Bolanos added a second in the 32nd minute.

Gabriel Fernandez headed one back for Emelec in the 87th minute.

LDU, Barcelona and Deportivo Quito are level at the top with 12 points after six games of the championship's second stage.

URUGUAY

The Uruguayan season got off to an unhappy start when unruly Progreso fans caused their team's match at Miramar Misiones to be abandoned in the 83rd minute.

Referee Olivier Viera halted play for five minutes in the first half when the Progeso supporters spat at a Miramar player when he went to take a corner.

The final straw came with seven minutes to play as a linesman complained he had also been spat on.

"When they insult you, you put up with it, but when they spit at a linesman, they've gone over the limits and that cannot be tolerated," Viera told the daily newspaper El Pais.

The Progreso fans were incensed at the sending-off of Alvaro Alonso in the 71st minute. Miramar were winning 1-0 with a goal by Marcelo Mansilla.

Champions Danubio began with a 1-0 win at Juventud, Uruguay midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez scoring the only goal.

COLOMBIA

Chilean forward Fernando Martel scored on his debut, six minutes after coming on as a substitute, to give Atletico Nacional a 1-0 win over Independiente Medellin in the 249th Medellin derby.

Martel scored with a shot which squeezed between the post and Medellin goalkeeper Bryan Lopez.

Nacional, the only unbeaten team, lead the Clausura championship with 13 points from five games.

Bucaramanga gave new coach Eduardo Retat an excellent start by beating Atletico Huila 5-0.

CHILE

Champions Colo Colo blew a 2-0 lead as they were held 2-2 by Union Espanola.

Eduardo Rubio and Colombia midfielder Giovanny Hernandez put the Chieftains in control but Johan Fuentes and Manuel Neira scored in the last 12 minutes as Union struck back.

Despite the result, Colo Colo stayed top of Group One. Universidad Catolica, Audax Italiano and O'Higgins lead the other groups.

Former Lazio and Juventus forward Marcelo Salas, who has returned to play for Universidad de Chile after six months out of the game, scored with a backheeled goal to set his team on the way to a 5-2 win over Deportes Concepcion.

Pedro Morales added two more either side of halftime, Luis Chavarria put through his own goal and midfielder Christian Martinez completed the scoring for Universidad de Chile.

ECUADOR

Barcelona stayed top of the championship's second stage with a 2-1 win over Deportivo Imbabura.

Marcelo Delgado and Alex Bolanos scored in the first 20 minutes for Barcelona before Bolanos turend villain when he was was dismissed in the 32nd minute for a second bookable offence.

Daniel Neculman pulled one back for Imbabura in the second half.

Barcelona have a three-point lead over El Nacional, who beat Deportivo Quito 2-1 in a derby.

Veteran striker Agustin Delgado, back in action after a six-month ban for his part in a brawl last year, scored his 100th goal in Ecuadorean football as he was on target in LDU's 3-0 win over Emelec.

Argentine striker Carlos Soriano scored a hat-trick in Deportivo Cuenca's 4-0 win over Olmedo.

PARAGUAY

Leaders Libertad came from behind to beat 3 de Febrero 2-1 with second half goals from RobertoGamarra, a penalty, and Colombian Vladimir Marin.

Gustavo Ramirez gave the Ciudad del Este based team a first-half lead.

Only 439 people watched the game at the Dr. Nicolas Leoz stadium.

VENEZUELA

Guaros, who have given 41-year-old Colombian goalkeeper Rene Higuita the chance to make another comeback, won their first-ever match in the top flight as they beat Carabobo 3-1.

Julio Cesar Lopez, John Castillo and Francisco Pineda shared the goals for Guaros, while Jaime Salazar replied for Carabobo.

Deportivo Anzoategui went top of the Apertura championship by beating Estudiantes de Merida 3-0 while champions Caracas FC were held 0-0 at home by UA Maracaibo.

Boca go top in Argentina as Independiente slip again

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Boca Juniors went top of the Argentine championship on Sunday, beating Huracan 1-0 to overhaul Independiente who lost to Gimnasia-La Plata.

Midfielder Pablo Ledesma scored the only goal for South American champions Boca, converting a 76th-minute penalty to end newly promoted Huracan's unbeaten record and take his personal tally to five.

The penalty was awarded after Rodrigo Palacio burst into the penalty area and was upended by Huracan goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero.

Until then, Huracan, who had Antonio Mohamed sent off in the 73rd minute, had been more than a match for Boca as both teams created chances in an entertaining match.

Boca, who notched their fourth win in a row, lead the Apertura championship with 13 points from six matches, one ahead of Independiente.

Independiente, who won their first four games before losing to Boca in midweek, were beaten for the second time in four days as they lost at Gimnasia.

Midfielder Roberto Salvatierra scored the only goal four minutes after halftime.

Velez Sarsfield pulled level on points with Independiente by beating defending champions San Lorenzo 2-0.

Midfielder Victor Zapata fired Ricardo La Volpe's team in front with a free kick in the 69th minute and Uruguayan Santiago Silva headed the second in injury time.

Estudiantes, missing their inspirational captain Juan Sebastian Veron through injury, slumped to their third straight defeat as they lost 1-0 to newly promoted San Martin.

Luis Tonelotto scored the only goal for San Martin, who have already beaten River Plate.

Racing Club and River Plate drew 1-1 in their derby.

Racing went ahead with a Facundo Sava penalty in the 34th minute and defender Federico Lusenhoff headed Daniel Passarella's team level with 11 minutes left.

River have two sent off, Sanchez injured in 4-1 defeat

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 23 (Reuters) - River Plate's unhappy season continued when they had two players sent off and lost teenage striker Alexis Sanchez to injury in a 4-1 defeat at promoted Tigre on Sunday.

Former Argentina forward Ariel Ortega was dismissed in the 85th minute for a second yellow card and substitute Rene Lima was ordered off in stoppage time for pushing an opponent after only three minutes on the field.

Chilean international striker Sanchez, 18, went off after only seven minutes with an injury to his left ankle and team doctor Luis Seveso said first indications were he had suffered ligament damage

Without their new signing from Colo Colo, who has been an instant hit at the club, River slumped to their first defeat against Tigre since 1947.

Roman Martinez opened the scoring after nine minutes, Matias Gimenez scored the second on the hour and Paraguayan striker Nestor Ayala added two more.

Marco Ruben, Sanchez's replacement, replied for Daniel Passarella's team in the 66th minute.

River, enduring their longest title drought since the 1980s, team fell seven points behind leaders Independiente and dropped from third to seventh as the Apertura championship passed the halfway mark.

River's season has been plagued by internal feuding amongst their own fans, which caused their opening match to be postponed, as well as inconsistency on the field.

Tigre, returning to the top flight after a 28-year absence, moved up to fourth with 17 points.

Independiente, 3-0 winners over Olimpo on Saturday, lead with 22 points from 10 games.

South American champions Boca, who are second, dropped two points behind after being held 2-2 at home by lowly Gimnasia-Jujuy.

Osvaldo Miranda headed the visitors in front after 10 minutes and, although second-half goals from Mauro Boselli and defender Gabriel Paletta put Boca ahead, Marcelo Berza's last-minute goal snatched a point for Gimnasia.

Racing Club won their third game in a row, beating Arsenal 1-0 away with a Facundo Sava goal in the 59th minute.

Stalin Motta's two missed penalties cost modest La Equidad a chance to go top of the Finalizacion tournament as they lost 2-1 at Once Caldas.

Motta struck his first effort against the post in the first half with the score still goalless and missed the target completely with his second attempt after the break.

Harnol Palacios headed Caldas in front in between but La Equidad finally hit the target with a Wilson Carpintero goal in the 78th minute.

Seven minutes later Dayro Moreno pounced on some poor defending to score the winner for Caldas with his 11th goal of the championship.

A total of eight penalties, several of them controversial, were awarded in the weekend's nine matches as Colombia's referees again came under the spotlight.

La Equidad stayed second on goal difference behind Atletico Nacional, who lost 2-1 at Deportes Tolima.

The match was marred by trouble on the terraces where Atletico Nacional supporters fought amongst themselves, leaving five injured according to local media.

Quindio coach Victor Espinosa resigned after his side were thrashed 5-1 at home by Chico FC, their fifth defeat in a row.

ECUADOR

Viteri's unhappy spell continued with red card in Deportivo Quito's 2-1 defeat at Deportivo Cuenca as the final stage of the 2007 championship got under way.

Viteri had a miserable time last week as Ecuador lost their opening two World Cup qualifiers, 1-0 at home to Venezuela and 5-0 in Brazil.

He was caught napping by Jose Manuel Rey's 45-metre free kick in the Venezuela game while Brazil's fifth goal, scored by Kaka, came courtesy of a blunder by Viteri as he allowed a harmless shot to slip through his arms.

Against Cuenca, Viteri was repeatedly baited by the home supporters and had to pick the ball out of the net twice before halftime as Lizandro Torres and Carlos Soriano put Cuenca in front.

Marcelo Palau pulled one back before Viteri was dismissed in the 53rd minute for punching John Garcia.

CHILE

Colo Colo scored in the 85th minute, missed a penalty and then conceded an injury-time equaliser as they were held 2-2 by arch-rivals Universidad de Chile in a pulsating derby.

Sebastian Pinto fired the visitors ahead with a 30-metre shot in the 24th minute before Gonzalo Fierro equalised from a harshly-awarded penalty one minute before the break.

In a dramatic finale, defender Miguel Riffo headed Colo Colo in front with five minutes to go, then Fierro missed the afternoon's second penalty before Pinto headed an injury-time equaliser.

Colo Colo stayed top of Group One in the Apertura championship while Universidad de Concepcion, Audax Italiano and O'Higgins lead the other groups.

Carlos Garrido scored in the third minute of injury time as Audax drew 3-3 at Cobreloa, who had gone ahead in the 85th minute through Juan Luis Gonzalez. Earlier, Esteban Paredes had scored twice for Cobreloa and Carlos Villanueva twice for Audax.

PARAGUAY

Roberto Gamarra's early goal gave second stage leaders Libertad a 1-0 win over Sol de America, who had a second half goal by Pedro Sosa controversially disallowed. Libertad are one point ahead of Cerro Porteno, who beat bottom team 2 de Mayo 4-0.

URUGUAY

Defensor Sporting won 2-1 at Wanderers to go top of the championship's first stage after previous leaders Rampla Juniors lost 1-0 to Tacuarembo.

Nacional's new coach Gerardo Pelusso got off to a losing start as they lost 2-0 at home to Danubio.

PERU

Coronel Bolognesi, leaders of the championship's second stage, came back from two goals behind to draw 2-2 at Sport Boys.

Jose Herrera and Rodrigo Saraz put Sport Boys 2-0 up in 27 minutes, Mario Soto pulled one back before halftime and Jesus Chavez equalised.

Roberto Duffoo (Boys) and Enio Novoa (Bolognesi) were sent off in the second half.

VENEZUELA

Uruguayan Nicolas Massia scored four goals, including three in a seven-minute spell during the second half, as Estudiantes de Merida thumped Estrella Rojas 6-0. Alexis Garcia and Jose Diaz completed the scoring.

Leaders Caracas FC beat Atletico El Vigia 2-0.

BOLIVIA

La Paz FC went down to a shock 2-1 defeat at home to San Jose as the six-team final stage of the Clausura championship got under way. Brazilian Alex Da Rosa scored the winner in injury-time.

Wilsterman beat The Strongest 1-0 while Real Mamore were held 0-0 at home from Blooming.

S.America round-up-Unfashionable clubs stay out in front

RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Unfashionable clubs continued to do well in South America as Rampla Juniors went back to the top in Uruguay, Coronel Bolognesi stayed top in Peru and Audax Italiano won again in Chile.

URUGUAY

Rampla Juniors, whose coach Luis Lopez works part time in a Montevideo hospital to supplement his income, went back to the top of the Apertura championship with a 2-1 win over Juventud.

Substitute Martin Peula scored a 78th-minute winner for Rampla, who won despite having Fabricio Cancela sent off early in the second half.

Rampla, who have never won the title since Uruguayan football turned professional in 1932 and are based in one of Montevideo's poorest areas, went two points ahead of Defensor Sporting who did not play.

PERU


Coronel Bolognesi, based in the town of Tacna near the Chilean border and named after a Peruvian soldier who fought in the 19th century War of the Pacific, beat Alianza Atletico 1-0 to stay top of the championship's second stage.

Adan Balbin scored early in the second half as Bolognesi extended their lead to six points. Cienciano moved into second place with a 4-0 win over Deportivo San Martin.

Sporting Cristal beat Universitario 1-0 in the Lima derby with a second-half goal from midfielder Roberto Palacios.

CHILE

Midfielder Carlos Villanueva scored both goals, the first with an overhead kick, to give Audax Italiano a 2-0 win over O'Higgins in a match involving the leaders of Groups Three and Four respectively.

Villanueva took his tally to 15 goals.

Audax, enjoying an unprecedented run, top Group Three with 39 points from 16 games, while O'Higgins have 32.

Traditional teams Colo Colo, who thumped Santiago Wanderers 4-0, and Universidad Catolica, 3-1 winners over Puerto Montt, lead the other groups.

ECUADOR

Striker Agustin Delgado, who has turned down a call from Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez to resume his international career, was on target as LDU came from behind to beat Deportivo Quito 3-1.

Juan Trivino put Deportivo in front in the 26th minute but Jairo Campos and Patricio Urrutia replied for LDU in the second half before Delgado, who played for Ecuador at the last two World Cups, completed the scoring.

Delgado, banned for six months earlier this year for his part in a brawl on the pitch, has blamed a series of injury problems for his decision to quit the national side.

LDU lead the final stage of the 2007 championship with 10 points from two games, a total which includes four bonus points carried through from earlier stages of the complex competition.

PARAGUAY

Libertad stayed one point ahead of Cerro Porteno in the second stage of the championship after the leading pair both won.

Libertad beat Nacional 2-1 after Vladimir Marin opened the scoring from a controversially-awarded free kick.

Oswaldo Martinez increased Libertad's lead with another free kick and Cristian Bogado pulled one back in injury-time.

Cerro Porteno beat 12 de Octubre 4-1.

VENEZUELA

Caracas stayed five points clear of Deportivo Anzoategui who were held 0-0 at Deportivo Tachira.

Only 100 people watched as Deportivo Italia beat bottom club Union Lara 1-0.

Unfashionable Lanus stay top in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Modest Lanus stayed on course for their first domestic title when they beat Tigre 2-1 to stay top of the Argentine championship on Sunday.

With four matches each to play in the Apertura championship, Lanus have a three-point lead over South American champions Boca Juniors, who moved into second place with a 3-0 win at Racing Club. Independiente, who drew 1-1 at River Plate, are third, a further point behind.

Matias Fritzler scored the winner on the hour for Lanus, who have 30 points from 15 games.
