With former Netherlands captain Phillip Cocu looking increasingly less likely to join Sydney FC as a marquee player, chief executive George Perry today confirmed Nigerian Jay Jay Okocha and Turkish striker Hakan Sukur have both been approached by the A-League club.

Socceroo John Aloisi is also involved in much-publicised talks.

Cocu, a 36-year-old midfielder who also captained Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven, was given until last Wednesday night to make a decision but his agent told Perry he needed more time.

Perry said Cocu was also considering retirement and an offer from Dubai.

"We haven't lost hope on signing Cocu, but the longer this goes on the less confident we are," Perry said from Japan today, there for Sydney FC's do or die Asian Champions League match against Urawa Reds on Wednesday night.

"If we hear from him this week then obviously we'll still listen, but we have to move on and get on with it."

When asked whether flamboyant midfielder Okocha and 191cm striker Sukur were now negotiating with the club, Perry said: "Yes, but we haven't tabled any firm offers."

Perry would not disclose the details, but said each offer was different depending on "who they are and what they've done".

Aloisi, who struck the decisive penalty against Uruguay that propelled Australia into the 2006 World Cup, rejected an offer of about $300,000 per season from rival A-League club Queensland Roar but it is understood Sydney could afford substantially more.

The Spain-based 31-year-old is reportedly seriously considering Sydney's current offer but is hoping for a more attractive one this week.

Okocha, 33, currently plays for Qatar SC, but made his name at English Premier League side Bolton, playing 84 games with the club between 1998 and 2002.

Sukur, 35, is a legend at Turkish club Galatasaray, where he currently plays.

The proven goalscorer has netted 218 times in 352 appearances for the 2000 UEFA Cup Champions, as well as 50 goals in 107 internationals for Turkey.

He also boasts the record for the fastest ever World Cup goal - 11 seconds against South Korea in the third-place play-off at the 2002 finals co-hosted by South Korea and Japan.

I'm starting to wonder when and if Sydney will annouce who there marquee player for the upcoming season will be.

They need to sign someone though. With Petrovski gone they cant rely on Zdrillic and the midfielders to score all the goals.
