Don't mean to be a killjoy but if this surgery does not work out, surely it's time to hang up his gloves?

He's only 32, which is practically still childhood by goalkeeper standards. icon_mrgreen.gif He still has a lot left in him, after all, Dino Zoff won the World Cup when he was past 40... And while Gigi was born in Toscana his parents are both from Friuli (pretty much the only place a guy with a last name like that could be from), so he has those great Furlan genes in him, just like Zoff himself. icon_mrgreen.gif

Back in training. Great to see him back cheers.gif

It does pose the question though, with Storari doing very well in goal and not arriving as a backup, what happens when Buffon is fit? Gigi is Gigi, the best, but Storari doesn't deserve to be dropped.

Gigi Buffon's agent Silvano Martina is unhappy with Juventus Coach Gigi Del Neri after he told reporters that his client is no longer indispensable to the club.

Del Neri's relationship with Buffon has been frosty to say the least, partly because the goalkeeper rarely visited the club's training ground during his lengthy injury lay-off.

Buffon also missed a team photo opportunity to collect an award in Switzerland, which is known to have riled Del Neri earlier this season.

Speculation regarding the World Cup winner's future has been rife especially amid reports linking him with a move to Manchester United in the summer.

Until now Martina and Buffon have always underlined their commitment to Juventus, but Del Neri's comments last night prompted a terse response.

Speaking to Controcampo, Martina said: “It was a wretched interview. I didn't expect it was from a decent person like Del Neri.

“There was a lack of respect towards Buffon. If I were Juventus' President, I would have fined Del Neri.”

Juventus director general Beppe Marotta wasted no time in outlining the club's position.

“Buffon is our player. There is the utmost respect for him. What Del Neri wanted to say is that the Coach is the manager of the group and that it's up to him to make the decisions.”

F**k Martina, what Delneri said was correct and even Buffon knows he is not more important than the team. What has shone through this year is that if you don't make sacrifices for the team you don't play.

However there are unusual circumstances here. One, Buffon is peerless and the club is right to say he is unsellable. Two, this is the second time Delneri has been a bit funny with Buffon, which could go one of two ways. I don't see him leaving either way, but it'll be interesting once he is fit.

Voted greatest goalkeeper of the decade too: http://www.iffhs.de/?388d85ff8b00388f05e91...aec70aeedb88602

Impressive, considering the success Casillas has had with a super Spain team at the end of the decade and the fact Buffon has been injury-plagued for the last 2-3 years.

Just worked out that in 441 Serie A games in total Buffon has only conceded 391 goals, or 0.89 goals conceded per game.

Buffon in love with Juventus

Gianlugi Buffon has again categorically ruled out a move from Italian giants Juventus this summer.

The goalkeeper has been linked with an exit in recent months, but he’s told La Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday that he is more than happy in Turin.

“I have spoken with new boss Antonio Conte and he said some important things to me which made me feel like a part of the project,” he stated.

“There is a lot of love between myself and Juventus. Especially with the fans, who have always shown me their affection no matter how I have performed.

“For the last year the club and I studied each other and a few too many misunderstandings developed, but I don’t want to blame anyone.

“I’ve heard some nice things said about me recently and I think that is right when you consider what I have given Juventus.

“The new directors have learnt to understand me better and I hope they appreciate me more too.

“Therefore there is no doubt about my future – I’m 100 per cent sure that I am staying here.”

Doubts over where Buffon would be playing next season emerged after he missed half of the past campaign due to an injury he picked up at South Africa 2010.

“When I returned after six months out everyone expected me to be at 100 per cent straight away,” he continued.

“Other players are allowed a period to get back to their best, but not me. But that doesn’t matter. I’ll continue playing for many more years at my highest levels.”

Juventus endured another problematic campaign and their seventh placed finish saw Coach Gigi Del Neri dismissed.

“I think that we can do well next season,” the former Parma custodian added. “I’m convinced that the individuals will help the side and the side will help the individuals.

“I said that winning a Scudetto here is worth more than one million and 200,000 won elsewhere and I confirm that today. That is what I feel inside of me.”

Everytime I am bored I come up with a Best Eleven list to keep me going (especially at downtimes at work, I know I'm weird), and I am never sure whether to include Buffon anymore. Is he ever going to play at the top level again?

Buffon is the best of his era, whether you want to say he is best at this moment is up to you. He has probably been too injured to warrant it, but I wouldn't even think for a second to have anyone else in goal when fit. His talent hasn't disappeared, he has had one or two lapses mentally which you would expect being injured for so long and playing behind a terrible defense, but still played very well. Ironically after the first time he injured his back he returned and played better than he ever had.

He's been off the radar because not only have Juventus not been in the CL (where basically every would see him most seasons) but also he missed the World Cup with his back injury just before the first game so that was another big tournament he did not appear in.

Still, he's been fit for a while now and played the second half of last season in place of the impressive Marco Storari, who could play for any top team, he played in all Italy's games and will start the season. Who knows, with a full season behind him in a decent Juve people might start paying attention to him again. It's all about being in the limelight. Who is going to see his wonder save at Chievo on a Sunday night? Put it on CL night and everyone is talking about it.

Buffon just a couple of days ago said he would retire at Juve, so hopefully he has some good days left and isn't suffering in continual mediocre teams. He deserved to finish his career with several more titles and a CL or two. He probably won't get that now but he'll still be a Juve, Italian and football legend regardless.

Buffon is really great. Better than Schmeichel? Not sure about that.

A lot of the new fans of football never had a chance to see him play. They briefly remember Kahn. The greatest GKs they know are Buffon, Casillas, Van der Sar, and Cech.

If the list was the best forwards of the past 25 years, it would probably be stacked with currently active players.

That's a good point.

I imagine that what really helps Buffon here is that he had one of the best goal keeper performances of all time in the 06 world cup. For some people, like Pele, that's the only stage that counts.

Wow. One of the greatest legends in porn is reaching out to Buffon to join him, as a padawang.

"Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has received a rather unusual job offer when he decides to hang up his gloves - a career in the porn industry.

The 33-year-old's wife, Alena, told Italian women's magazine Verrisimo that her husband was "better in bed than Rocco Siffredi", a famous porn star.

Siffredi has responded to the comments in an interview with Tuttosport and is keen for the Italy No.1 to showcase his talents in the bedroom.

"He [Buffon] may be even better than me in bed, but I want to see him in front of the camera. Buffon is still a kid compared to me. I will make a suggestion: when he stops playing, he should come work for me. I need real men," Siffredi said.

The comments come a week after Kevin-Prince Boateng's girlfriend, Melissa Satta, claimed the reason for the player's recent injury woes was because of the couple's active sex life.

Buffon is yet to comment on the offer as he focuses on helping Juve's Scudetto bid."

Better than Rocco? I doubt it, I bet he's not quite as rough either icon_mrgreen.gif

It's Gigi's birthday today as well.

Happy birthday to one of the greatest players in the game.

According to Rocco, he' still just a kid.
