1 World Cup (2006)

Vincenzo Iaquinta was born on the 21st of November 1979 in Crotone. His dad Giuseppe is a businessman and his mum Vittoria a housewife. He has a sister called Adele.
He's married with Arianna, whom he met in a motorway restaurant, and the couple have two beautiful boys: Edoardo and Giuseppe.

When he's not playing football, Vincenzo is just like any other normal guy: he likes to spend a lot of time with his family, usually playing with his two sons. He listens to a lot of music – Adriano Celentano and Renato Zero are definitely his best-loved singers – and is always watching movies. He prefers action movies as they're more exciting to him. It's not a coincidence that his favourite actor is Sylvester Stallone, the star of Rocky.
His favourite dish is lasagne, washed down with some good red wine, perhaps a Brunello di Montalcino or a high-quality Cabernet.

Vincenzo is scrupulous about the way he looks. Like many young men his own age, he prefers sporty clothes, as he considers them more comfortable and functional. Only when it's strictly necessary does he opt for classically-cut, elegant suits.
He doesn't use many accessories, but he's crazy about watches.

Apart from football, he's tried playing golf a few times, a sport that interests him a lot, but that he found to be a little difficult and complicated. He always watches the tennis on television, and particularly any match featuring Roger Federer, whom he considers the best all-round athlete outside of football.

He started playing football at 6 years of age for Reggiolo and has always played as a striker, just like his all-time idol Marco Van Basten.

When asked what has been the best moment of his career for him so far, he doesn't even need to think about it and the reply comes swift: winning the World Cup.

He hopes to win a lot at Juve, all he can, maybe winning the 'double', Scudetto and Champions League, too.
He hopes for a happy, peaceful future, with a lot of luck and that his two sons may become professional footballers one day, just like daddy.

Iaquinta will miss this weekends game with Reggina as he is suffering from back pain. This could be a problem as Trezeguet is also not 100%.

Vincenzo Iaquinta has told Football Italia that he has no regrets about seeing a dream move to Barcelona collapse while at Udinese. “I’m at Juve now.”

The Italian international was targeted by the Spanish giants on numerous occasions during his Udine stint, yet no transfer was ever completed.

“It was completely true that Barca were interested, but I have no regrets,” noted the 2006 World Cup winner.

“In the end, even by staying in Udine I managed to get into the Champions League, I won the World Cup and then earned myself a place here at Juventus.

“Maybe on a personal level it would have been interesting to play abroad.

“If I ever talk about it again it will be a long time down the road as I am so happy at Juventus and I hope to stay here for a good deal longer.”

Iaquinta, who has eight League goals so far this term, joined the Old Lady in the summer and has big ambitions for the future.

“I want to win everything,” he added. “And when I say everything, that includes the Scudetto and the Champions League.

“When? Soon, hopefully next year. We will give everything.”

There’s bad news for Juventus striking star Vincenzo Iaquinta as he has been ruled out of action for another three weeks.

The former Udinese hitman was missing for yesterday’s rescheduled Week 31 clash against Parma and played just 12 minutes in last Saturday’s showdown against Milan.

Iaquinta damaged quadriceps last Tuesday in training and scans have revealed that the problem is more serious than initially suspected and will take at least three weeks to fully heal.

With the competition intense for places at Euro 2008, Iaquinta’s injury has come at an inopportune time and could prove costly.

The news means that unsettled forward Raffaele Palladino, who hit a superb goal against Parma, will have a greater chance of commanding a starting spot.

Iaquinta is Euro doubt

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta is out for the rest of the season with a muscular problem that could rule him out of Euro 2008.

The powerful hitman has been sidelined for several weeks, but the severity of the injury has been unclear.

However, tests seem to have revealed that a lengthy period of relaxation is called for and Iaquinta has certainly made his last contribution to this campaign.

“The scans have shown that healing is taking place, but more rest is needed,” a statement from Juventus doctor Riccardo Agricola reads.

“Given the proximity to the end of the season and the delicate nature of the muscles involved, he won’t feature for the rest of the current season.

“Vincenzo will return to Juve duty for pre-season training.”

It is widely believed that a month will be long enough for Iaquinta to recover.

But the spell on the sidelines will have cost him match fitness and may encourage Roberto Donadoni to look elsewhere when selecting his squad for Austria and Switzerland

sad.gif I hope Donadoni takes him because he is a very effective option to use, but he hasn't played for a while and may not be 100% fit.

Apparently Zenit have offered Juve £10m for Iaquinta. I can't see us selling at this time of the year but in the summer is a possibility.

Vincenzo Iaquinta has been impressive in recent weeks and Juve shouldn’t get rid of him, says Serafino Ingardia

We all know Vincenzo Iaquinta is not one of the most skilled forwards in the game, still the former Udinese ace has so far proved his worth at a big club like Juventus despite being harshly criticised in the past few years.

The world champion, who will turn 30 in November, was signed to be a reserve and sit on the bench waiting for his moment. It’s not an easy job to be ready only when needed, but Iaquinta is super at it. He is the kind of player every Coach wishes to have in his squad. Vincenzo trains hard, never complains and scores important goals when brought in.

He is also unique. Incredibly fast for his height, 6 foot 2 inches, he helps the team like no other. If fans just appreciated him for what he truly does, without caring too much about his technique, then he would get the credit he deserves.

Marcello Lippi, who is no fool, knows what I am talking about. That is why whenever he gets the chance to he calls Vincenzo up for the Italy squad. He brought him to Germany and wasn’t let down, and will try to do the same in 2010.

Juve have recently considered cashing in on the player and it is no secret that a ludicrous offer from Zenit St. Petersburg was accepted by the club, but turned down by the striker himself last January. The Bianconeri should consider their moves this summer because if they are to get rid of him then it won’t be easy to find an equal replacement on the market.

In modern football we all acknowledge the importance of rotating players and Vincenzo is ideal for this system. He has been a key player for Juve this season scoring six Serie A goals and three in the Champions League, including a fantastic opener against Chelsea.

Now look at his teammates – Amauri, always undecided between Italy and Brazil and never truly in love with the Bianconeri colours, or David Trezeguet, tempted to leave the Olimpico on many occasions.

Those big names should learn from the modesty of their less famous teammate. Iaquinta’s only wish is to keep on playing for the Old Lady and he will try to retain his place in the team at any cost. No moans, no complaints or demands for wage increases will ever cross his mind. Vincenzo is indeed good news for calcio because he makes me feel that there are still honourable players in football.

Iaq hails Juve attack

Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta believes the Bianconeri have the best attack in Serie A and Europe.

Iaquinta started the season as the club's fourth choice striker, but is now a regular in the side ahead of Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet.

In the last month, Iaquinta has scored six times and over the season he even has a better goal to game ratio than Amauri, the team's topscorer.

When asked to describe how he feels at the moment,” Iaquinta replied: “Proud. Satisfied. But I felt like a regular even when I was on the bench.

“If I stayed quiet, it's because I knew that when you play you have to also show you actually deserve to.

“I know that when all four of our strikers are fit there is no better attack in Italy and Europe,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 29-year-old had come very close to being sold in the January transfer window and is happy that he is now considered untouchable.

“It's wonderful. I am really pleased that we no longer speak about my departure. I have three years left on my contract and if they propose an extension I will sign it,” he added.

When asked if he would remain at Juventus despite the feverish competition for places, Iaquinta said: “Yes. I like competition, the more there is the better.”

Iaquinta then turned his attention to this weekend's game against Italian champions and League leaders Inter, who are 10 points ahead of Juventus in Serie A.

“I have never scored against them,” Iaquinta admitted. “I have played them more than once with Udinese and only once with Juve in the Coppa Italia.

“It's tough against Julio Cesar. He is going through a rather graceful period. No one seems to be able to score against him.

“We will play for the three points,” he said. “I am sure that not even Jose Mourinho will come to Turin looking for a draw.

“They certainly have something more than us because they have taken points away from the provincial sides.

“We instead have wasted too many opportunities against the smaller teams,” he concluded. “That has been our ruin.”

Iaquinta has scored eight goals in just 11 starts for Juventus in Serie A this season and will almost certainly play either alongside Del Piero or Trezeguet this weekend.

Iaquinta confirms Juve contract

Vincenzo Iaquinta announces he will sign a contract extension with Juventus in the next few days, ending speculation over his future.

The World Cup winner had been linked with Tottenham and several Russian clubs, but offers of around £7m were reportedly rejected.

“The contract until 2013 is all done and dusted, we just need to sign on the dotted line, which should happen very soon,” he told ESPNsoccernet.it.

“The club proved it has faith in me and that means a lot, as since I’ve been here clearly I must’ve done something good.”

Although he struggled to find space in the side, Iaquinta has been instrumental in taking Juventus to the Champions League in the latter half of the season.

“Any player isn’t happy to be on the bench, but [Alessandro] Del Piero and Amauri were on great form and I realised I had to wait, then take my moment when it arrived.

“This is an important and prestigious side, one born to win. Soon we will triumph again and that is my personal objective too.”

The Bianconeri had plunged into a crisis that saw Claudio Ranieri sacked, while caretaker manager Ciro Ferrara is hoping to remain next season.

“I’d like to point out that the blame for those two terrible months also falls to the players, as we made repeated mistakes,” noted Iaquinta.

“It wasn’t a physical problem, perhaps it was psychological, as we didn’t approach games the right way. I’m not sure even we know what the real issue was.

“Before the game with Siena we were nervous and feared we’d miss out on the Champions League, but fortunately for us Milan and Fiorentina helped by not winning their matches last week.

“Ciro has settled in very quickly, is young and has a great future ahead of him, but the club makes the decisions on who is the Coach.”

Iaquinta will be in next term’s team and joined by new signing Diego, who arrives from Werder Bremen for around £25m.

“Diego is an important player who can help us make that step up in quality.”

Vincenzo Iaquinta Signs New Contract With Juventus

Juventus have secured the services of striker Vincenzo Iaquinta until 2013, as the former Udinese player has signed a contract extension with the Turin-based outfit.

The 29-year-old has been one of the main protagonists for the Bianconeri, especially in the second half of the season, his positive form putting him first in the pecking order ahead of David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero, and Amauri.

He managed to notch 15 goals in all competitions this season and is delighted to have signed a new contract, despite previously being linked with a move away from the club to allegedly interested parties like Zenit St. Petersburg, Lazio, and Tottenham Hotspur.

"For me, it's a great source of pride to have extended my contract with Juventus. This means I have done well," he explained through the Juventus official website.

"I thank the club for their confidence and the fans who have always supported me and considered me a major player."

Iaquinta recently scored a brace in the 2-0 win over Lazio this past weekend and has already been confirmed to take part in the Confederations Cup for Italy this summer in South Africa.

Im interested to see what kind of roll he will play next season. He has been our most consistent striker this season. If we play with two strikers next season im sure he will be starting but rumors say that me might play a 4-2-3-1. If so it will be a 3 way battle for that lone striker spot.

Can't knock his start to the season, didn't play extraordinarily against Chievo but worked hard and scored a great header, and I thought he did very well against Roma earlier. He can cause lots of problems against certain teams, whats good about him is that he can move into space with the ball and go at people and also play as the centre forward.

Iaquinta grabs Georgia chance

Vincenzo Iaquinta is tipped to start against Georgia in tonight’s World Cup qualifier. “This is my big chance and I have to make the most of it.”

The Azzurri take on Hector Cuper’s side in Tbilisi this evening, a game you can watch LIVE from 19.00 UK time.

The Juventus striker has been steadily creeping his way into the starting XI at both club and international level with consistent performances.

“I have always felt like a first team player in this team and not just now,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“That’s just what I’m like. I never give up, not even when I end up on the bench.”

Iaquinta pushed out the likes of Alberto Gilardino to take his place upfront alongside Giuseppe Rossi, but has only ever played with him for a brief period in the friendly against Switzerland.

“We got on very well together. He has great quality and reminds me of Diego. The 4-4-2 system suited us and the only element missing from our performance against Switzerland was the goal.

“This is my big chance and I have to make the most of it. The important thing is that somebody scores for Italy, it doesn’t matter who.”

Iaquinta will have more competition in future, as Juventus teammate Amauri is still waiting for an Italian passport.

New laws introduced last month will postpone that paperwork, however, so the Brazilian will not be able to claim citizenship before the end of the World Cup qualifiers in October.

“Amauri will be in the squad later on. We talked it over and he cares a great deal about the opportunity to play for Italy.”

Georgia (probable): Lomaia; Lorianidze, Kaladze, Khizanishvili, Popkhadze, Seturidze, Menteshasvili, Kopiasvili, Kenia, Dvalishvili

Italy (probable): Buffon; Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Chiellini, Criscito; Marchionni, Pirlo, Palombo, Camoranesi; Iaquinta, Rossi

http://www.football-italia.net/sep5f.html

-----------------------------

With the way they are playing, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing an Iaquinta-Amauri partnership for Italy, even if I do have problems with Amauri being called in the first place. Even so, Rossi-Iaquinta could be very good if given the chance.

Iaquinta apologises to Friuli crowd

Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta has apologised for the disrespectful gesture he made to his former fans at the Stadio Friuli.

He was booked for his controversial celebration after scoring in Juve’s 4-0 triumph away to Udinese.

“Iaquinta disappointed me. In 25 years I have never seen such a lack of respect for the fans,” slammed Udinese President Giampaolo Pozzo.

“We signed Iaquinta when he was just some poor kid in Serie C club Castel di Sangro. We raised him, introduced him to top level football, paid handsomely and then he went to Juve.

“Udinese do not deserve such treatment.”

The forward watched the tape of this interview and apologised to the Udinese patron.

“I would like to point out I was not cross with the President or anyone at the club, who I have always respected a great deal,” insisted Iaquinta.

“My gesture was aimed at the Udinese supporters. Today I wanted to play and to score, as they hurled serious insults at me and my mother.

“In any case, I apologise to everyone, it was the wrong way to react and I regret it.

“I have always been a calm person, but this is the third time I have come to Udine and been showered with insults. I scored today and just couldn’t take it any more.

“I spent some wonderful years in Udine, so I don’t know why there is now so much bitterness aimed at me.”

-------------------------

It's strange how they treated him, although his reaction was a bit strong, he was in a running battle with them since he came on and god knows what he would have done if he had scored that fifth goal. Considering all the ex-Udinese players in our team now (Iaquinta, Quagliarella, Motta, Pepe) they picked him out.

Besides, he was just reenacting his old goal celebration with them:

icon_mrgreen.gif
fantasista
I think he and Jankulovski both get singled out because they left when Udinese were in a very strong position, and they didn't do it in the most graceful way. When they left it was like if Di Natale had left this year, didn't go over well at all at the time.
JuveJay
This guy is made of glass. He comes back for two games and gets injured for 2-3 weeks on and off, never fit. He has been out for 4 weeks again, plays a half against Roma and is now out for 2-3 weeks again.

Absolutely fucking infuriating because he is a good striker, his scoring ratio has also been good despite the injuries.

Also, Genoa want Amauri (hahaha.gif) on loan, but we won't be able to get rid of that fuck if Vinny keeps getting injured. Luca Toni is also injured. Obviously Quagliarella is injured. Del Piero is playing with a knee injury that will need looking at some time.

So yeah, we're fucked as usual.

Iaquinta content to be at Cesena

Vincenzo Iaquinta thinks he can re-establish himself in the Italian game after leaving Juventus for Cesena.

The 32-year-old has signed for the relegation threatened side after a loan deal was agreed between all parties.

“It’s an ideal place for me to re-launch my career,” the World Cup winner told TMW. “I’m happy and I want to demonstrate something important. I can’t wait to start.”

The former Udinese player hasn’t appeared at all for Juve this term and will now partner Adrian Mutu in attack at the Stadio Manuzzi.

“I say thank you to Juventus, I hold no grudges, and also to the fans who have always treated me like a great player,” he added.

“Mutu is a fine forward, but there is not only him. Cesena are a side with quality.

“I don’t think that I will play tomorrow, but I do believe and hope that I could feature at the weekend. I haven’t played a game since March and I certainly won’t have 90 minutes in me.”

Cesena face Napoli on Wednesday before taking on Catania.

Iaquinta joins Cesena after rejecting a switch to Novara.

----------------------------

Wow, busy day. Thanks for everything Vincenzo, really dangerous player in his day when he wasn't injured!

Cesena would have a formidable forward line of Candreva - Iaquinta - Mutu, if Candreva stays and the other two are fit.
