Amauri Carvalho de Oliveira (born June 3, 1980 in Carapicuíba, São Paulo), better known as Amauri, is a Brazilian football player. He plays as second striker for Italian Serie A team Juventus.

Club career

He played at the prestigious Viareggio Tournament in Italy with his Brazilian Club, he was young and received many offers from Italian clubs, but he decided to choose a Swiss club to slowly start his career in Europe. After two seasons in Switzerland for Challenge League team AC Bellinzona, Amauri was signed by Parma and immediately loaned to Napoli in January 2001, making his Serie A debut on April 14, 2001 in a league match against Bari.

He then played for Piacenza in Serie A for the 2001–02 season, Messina in Serie B in the 2002–03 season and Chievo Verona from 2003 to 2006.

During his time for Chievo, and especially in the 2005–06 season, ended with a qualification to the preliminary phase of UEFA Champions League (also favoured by the 2006 Serie A scandal), Amauri showed most of his potential, becoming one of the key players of the team.

Palermo
On August 31, 2006, the last day of the 2006 summer transfer period, Amauri was sold to Palermo for about €8 million, after having scored two goals in the return match of the third qualifying round against PFC Levski Sofia.

Immediately from his debut with Palermo, Amauri has become a fan favourite and a key player for the rosanero, scoring eight goals in 18 league matches until December 2006. A serious knee injury in a league match against Siena forced him to a seven-month stop. Amauri recovered in time for the start of the 2007-08 season, being immediately featured in the regular lineup for the Palermo debut match against AS Roma, and scored his first goal in the new season in the next match, a 4-2 away win to Livorno.

Juventus
On May 30, 2008 Amauri completed a €15.3 million (plus the full property of Antonio Nocerino and the co-ownership of Davide Lanzafame) move to the Italian giants, Juventus.

Juventus new recruit Amauri believes that he can outdo Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s achievements in Turin.

The Brazilian predator joined Juve from Palermo in one of the biggest transfers of the summer and is under pressure to deliver for his new employers.

Amauri has been compared with Swedish star Ibrahimovic, who enjoyed a glorious spell with the Old Lady between 2004 and 2006 and he doesn’t seem daunted.

“I don’t feel intimidated simply because I am used to it,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Since I arrived at Chievo people have been comparing me with Zlatan both physically and in the way we play.

“He became a superstar and he did very well at Juve. I am hoping to do even better.

“We want to win everything – the Scudetto, the Champions League and maybe the Coppa Italia as well. I just want to play and prove myself at the top level.”

With David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero forming a lethal partnership last term, Amauri may not be guaranteed a starting shirt for the coming campaign.

“I’m not at all worried about that,” he claimed. “I have never been interested in personal aims.

“I have the greatest respect for Alessandro Del Piero and my other teammates, but I will try and play as much as possible.”

I don't think Zlatan was that sensational in his time at Juve tbh, when he first joined he was brilliant and also in fits and starts the next year but he was overused in Capello's last season in place of Del Piero and bombed everytime in the CL.

I think if Amauri hits the ground running on both fronts he can make a real name for himself, but he is 28 now and needs to play well straight away.

Blog: Amauri apology

Juventus fans moaned when Amauri was their big summer signing, but Susy Campanale is glad he silenced his critics

When Juventus first began intensive negotiations to sign Amauri from Palermo, there were protests throughout the land, as supporters wanted a big new name to be brought in from overseas, someone who would fit right in to the Champions League and light up Serie A. The Brazilian was “a joke,” they said, a one-season wonder who was not fit to pull on the Bianconeri jersey.

Scoring 34 goals in three seasons for the likes of Chievo and Palermo – regardless of a devastating injury that kept him out for seven months – is small fry, something anyone can do, blasted the critics. Where are they now?

Amauri’s five goals in eight games have earned Juventus wins over Udinese, Cagliari, Torino and a draw with Catania. The only time this season, including the Champions League, he has scored and not directly contributed to picking up points was in the 2-1 loss at Napoli.

If Juve have avoided sliding into the abyss so far this season, it is thanks to Amauri. Instead of waiting for an outsider to settle into the Serie A pace while David Trezeguet and Vincenzo Iaquinta recovered from injury, they could count on a player who knows this League and how to break down tough opponents in games with relatively few scoring opportunities. He is remarkably clinical, has strength, skill and is good in the air.

Granted, Amauri burst on to the calcio scene very late in his career. Already 28 years old, he never went above four goals per season before suddenly lighting up Chievo in 2005-06 with 11 in 37 games. His first campaign in Sicily started very well until a serious injury, but he recovered to net 15 in the following term.

Was that enough to warrant a 15.3m Euro transfer fee to Turin? It was enough for Luca Toni to move from Palermo to Fiorentina for 10m Euros. There was similar criticism of his worth at the time, as he was already 28 years old and had a dismal scoring record until he suddenly lit up Palermo. Sound familiar?

Toni had been offered to Milan and reportedly Juventus, who turned him down because he wasn’t glamorous enough or suitably tested on the big stage. That didn’t stop Toni going on to win the Golden Boot that year. Amauri may not be an investment for the future, but he's pretty useful right now.

The one great signing this summer. Not many players join Juve and make such an impact straight away, Amauri has been great.

Dunga on Amauri in Corrieire Dello Sport:

QUOTE
“I am following his progress and he is doing well for Juventus, becoming a real focal point,”

“But that does not mean I will call him up soon. I have my own squad and will carry on with that unit. I am a consistent person.”

“The choice is up to the lad and we are not going to intervene by forcing him to play for Brazil. The Selecao has great champions and I cannot compromise myself by making promises I cannot keep.

“Let us just say the old system of agents spreading rumours to ‘force the hand’ of another party did not go down well with me,”

“I make my choices. Whoever wants to wear the Brazil shirt must wait and see what happens.

“I will not deny Amauri is a great striker, but Adriano is back to a good level again and Luis Fabiano is doing brilliantly.

“I don’t want to wipe out the work I have done in the last few months. A team is built with consistency and respecting equilibrium.

“Now I have faith in Adriano and Luis Fabiano. If Amauri wants to play for Brazil, he must continue doing well and wait for his moment. Otherwise…”

Amauri is doing wonders atm. saving Ranieri's ass really !
JuveJay
Yeah, Ranieri should thank him. It was crap goalkeeping by Calderoni for his goal against Toro though.
JuveJay
According to Tuttosport Juve have rejected a bid of £42.6m from Real Madrid for Amauri.
Romanista
doubt it. not about Juve's rejection of the bid but i doubt there was even a bid placed.
JuveJay
It was Crapposport. There might have been an enquiry but the figure is probably made up.

What's the verdict on his first season? To me he is doing just as expected but has yet to rise above the rest. Could say the same about the rest of the team though, but for example I think Iaquinta managed to really shine.
JuveJay
He suffered physically in the second half of the season and ended up injured (like the rest of the team really) but when at a good condition he showed he is a very dangerous striker, in the first half of the season he was phenomenal. He surprised me how good he was in the air, better than I thought.

Big money players usually take a season to settle in at Juve so if that trend continues he did very well for his first term, but he has 20+ goals in him. Individually though there is not an emphasis for a player to score so many at Juve, the goals are spread out.

I would give him a 7.5.
JuveJay
Amauri seems to have started the season like he did the last one, even if he doesn't have a goal yet. He is unlucky not to to be honest, he had a few chances today as well as two against Chievo. His overall performance and condition is very good though, he leads from the front and it would be nice if he could get a rest now and again so he is in better shape for the second half of the season.

Sucks angry.gif START SCORING GOALS INSTEAD OF JUST WAVING YOUR ARMS AROUND EVERY TIME YOU MESS UP OR FALL DOWN
SaoPaulista
he has not played good for long time
JuveJay
He doesn't get enough support, blame the coach. Amauri is isolated from Diego and Diego from the rest of the midfield in most plays, I'm not going to criticise Amauri as he works extremely hard and in a good system would be a Drogba-like player who made the difference. Obviously his confidence in front of goal has been taken to pieces though, because he has games with no chances and then when he does get chances he misses them from rushing.

Amauri out for a month

Juventus are reeling after it emerged that Brazilian striker Amauri faces almost a month on the sidelines.

The 29-year-old who had just started to find a bit of form, scoring three goals in his last four matches, has suffered an injury to his left thigh.

Amauri hobbled off just minutes into last night's Europa League clash with Ajax, which ended 0-0, allowing Juventus to progress to the next round.

Tests performed this morning persuaded the Bianconeri's medical staff to recommend Amauri remain out of action for 20-25 days.

It's a big blow to Alberto Zaccheroni, as Amauri will now miss important games against Palermo, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Napoli.

His thigh problem is the 50th separate injury Juventus have suffered this season.

---------------------------

Key player with a mid-term injury, so what else is new? I'm really tired of this shit, it hampers us all the time, from nothing either.
Tobinho
At least it didn't happen at Vinovo. huh.gif
JuveJay
It's not as if the Olimpico is as cold as Vinovo either.
Tobinho
Is it still really cold there? Temperatures seem mild around most of Northern Italy now.
JuveJay
Vinovo is getting more towards the Alps on the west, but it is not as sheltered as Torino. The Delle Alpi was much worse though.

It's been ok recently, but drops a lot at night. Just looking at the forecast, heavy snow for Sunday, great icon_mrgreen.gif

Amauri has just been given his Italian citizenship.

Amauri out for a month
Friday 27 August, 2010
Juventus have suffered a real blow ahead of this weekend's season opener against Bari as Amauri is out injured.

The Italy international striker will be out for a month after picking up a knock against Sturm Graz last week.

A scan taken this morning revealed that he has torn a muscle in the thigh of his right leg.

Juventus' medics believe it will take 25 days for Amauri to heal properly.

He will now almost certainly miss Juventus' matches against Udinese and Sampdoria.

Amauri had hoped for a good start to the campaign after a disastrous season last term.
To use a rather vulgar expression my mom is annoyingly fond of... s**t in a bag. angry.gif
JuveJay
This is fucking typical, I knew it wasn't good news when he went off. So who is up front? No Amauri, no Iaquinta, and Trezeguet set to leave. Fucking great.

Out for three months with knee ligament damage rolleyes.gif

Amauri is basically a disastrous flop.

We paid up to €22m for him including Nocerino. He is on €4.2m per year. He has only had half a season of scoring form. He works hard and has been a little unlucky but his scoring record after the first 6 months at Juve is horrendous.

His time since has been interspersed with injury and now he has a long term one. He was probably going to be sold in the summer anyway but now we'd be lucky to get €7m for him as no one will pay his wages and he is 30.

Secco needs to take full responsibility for this fuck up.

Zamparini: "I would take Amauri back right away, tomorrow morning even. But to come to Palermo he must reduce his wages."

Marotta: 'Amauri turned down offers'

Amauri has turned down several transfer requests and “wants to stay at Juventus,” revealed director general Beppe Marotta.

The situation in Turin is increasingly tense and there were strong reports the Bianconeri wanted to sell their Brazilian during the transfer window.

“We received several proposals and passed them on to him, but today he told us that he wants to stay at Juventus,” revealed Marotta.

“When faced with a firm decision like that, we cannot help but accept it.”

The fans, however, are furious at what they see as Amauri holding up their transfer strategy.

During tonight’s 2-1 home defeat to Udinese, the supporters were chanting slogans calling on Amauri to leave Turin.

Transfer deadline day is Monday and Cagliari confirmed Juve’s interest for striker Alessandro Matri.

“We are not in a position to make investments, so our only chances are to take players on loan,” added Marotta.

“Matri was perhaps one of the few who could make the transfer, but not on the terms Cagliari are asking for.”

----------------------------------

Zamparini open to Amauri return

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini says he would be prepared to bring Juventus striker Amauri back to Sicily.

Last night, Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta told reporters that a number of bids had been submitted for the 30-year-old.

It was also revealed that Amauri has expressed his intention to stay in Turin.

However, the Brazilian's agent Ernesto Bronzetti did tell Sky Sport Italia that his client has so far only refused offers from abroad.

“In January Amauri only turned down three foreign teams: Real Zaragoza, Fulham and West Bromwich Albion.

“Instead there was never anything concrete with Italian clubs like Fiorentina and Lazio.

“I spoke with Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini three days ago. He confirmed that right now he couldn't bring Amauri back to Lazio.

“We can talk about it again if he changes his mind.”

In the meantime with the transfer deadline fast approaching it looks as though Zamparini has had a rethink.

“I would like to bring Amauri back this year because in six months I would be able to re-launch a player and show him that he is a champion,” Zamparini said.

“However, they'll have to loan Amauri to me and pay his wages…”

--------------------------

Just fuck off Amauri and your stupid wages (Secco the dickhead), fuck off Zampa too.

On loan to Parma.

Good luck Amauri. So we can sell you. Juventus is not your club.

Just scored against Fiorentina for Parma... They can keep him either way.
JuveJay
I knew he'd score for Parma icon_mrgreen.gif Nearly a whole season since he had scored for Juve, maybe he's just a provincial player.

Good, we can get more money for him.
JuveJay
Looks like we are finally getting rid of this €22.7m turd.

Fiorentina are paying a whopping €250,000 to take him off our hands laugh.gif Official soon.

Fuck you Secco!!!
JuveJay
He's gone, €0.5m to Fiorentina. His contract was expiring in the summer, hence the ridiculously low fee.

Thanks for nothing, Secco.
