Hernanes to Lazio: 'It's done!'

“Everything should be resolved within the day” for Lazio’s Hernanes transfer, announced San Paolo Vice-President Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva.

Negotiations have been at an advanced stage for several days and this evening there could be a formal statement.

“Everything should be resolved within the day,” commented the San Paolo chief.

“There are still some details to iron out, but we are talking about simple red tape. At this moment I cannot make any formal announcement until the contracts have been signed.”

It is a complicated affair for the midfielder, as San Paolo only own 75 per cent of his contract. Another 17 percent belongs to company Traffic and eight per cent Kirin Soccer.

Overall Lazio are set to hand over €13.5m for the Brazilian talent to reinforce their squad.

“Of all the proposals that have arrived for Hernanes, Lazio’s was absolutely the most concrete,” added agent Joseph Lee.

“The only thing missing is the official announcement, but everything has been done. He will join Lazio after the Copa Libertadores.

“If San Paolo go out in the semi-final, then he’ll make the move after international duty.

“The parties are all in agreement and this is practically a guarantee. We’re just waiting for the formalities.”

San Paolo’s semi-final match against Internacional is on Thursday.

Garrido: 'So happy to be at Lazio'

Ex-Manchester City man Javier Garrido is “happy to be at such an important club as Lazio. It’s a big responsibility to replace Aleksandar Kolarov.”

The defender has completed his transfer to the Biancocelesti and put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

He underwent his three-hour medical this morning and will begin training with his new teammates on Wednesday afternoon.

“It is a big responsibility to replace a player like Kolarov. I am here and he is at Manchester City, so this is a new phase of my career,” said the Spaniard.

“I really hope to bring all the strength within me to achieve important objectives, both on a personal level and for the whole team.

“I am very happy to be here, as Lazio are a very highly respected club in Italy that is also known and appreciated across Europe.

“It is a new experience that gives me many positive emotions. I really hope to do well at such an important club.”

He's not as good as Kolarov but he is decent, I'm not expecting anything great from him really but we'll see. The fee is €3m.

Yep, about €10m euros, although I suspect it is pretty complicated.

'Lazio are better than Roma'
Wednesday 15 September, 2010
Lazio full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner believes his side are better than Roma this season and can overtake them in the table.

The Biancocelesti recorded their first victory of the new campaign at the weekend and have high hopes for Hernanes, the Brazilian playmaker they signed from Sao Paulo.

Interviewed in the Neue Luzerner Zeitung, Lichtsteiner said: “We have a good team. Unfortunately last season was disappointing but we forget that we also won the Italian Super Cup.

“There is the quality to do well here. We are in a position to compete with Roma. Last year in both derbies we were the better side.

“I feel like a Lazio player and I am happy here. The club has ambition for the future. There is no reason to change teams.”

Lichtsteiner never really said Lazio are better then Roma. He only said they can compete with Roma unlike last season.

The title of this article is stupid.

I'm still waiting for Lazio to have a horrible run, but they were miles better than Catania today. Zarate had one of his 1 in 5 games, destroyed them.

azio Coach Edy Reja prepares to face Cesena tomorrow, but remains furious about playing in these climactic conditions. “This is ice-skating, not football.”

The Biancocelesti’s journey to Genoa over the weekend was repeatedly delayed by heavy snowfall, taking over seven hours, while the club demanded repeatedly that the game be postponed.

It went ahead and Genoa won 3-2 with Lazio picking up several injuries on the frozen pitch. It’s still not clear whether Thursday’s 19.45 UK time kick-off with Cesena will go ahead, be brought forward or called off completely.

“We are talking to the authorities and should know soon,” said Reja in his Press conference. “We will try to bring it forward, because we are not going to step on to that field in the evening.

“The Genoa game on Sunday should’ve been called off, because that was ice-skating, not football. The result is not the problem, but rather being forced to play in those conditions when we struggled to stay on our feet and picked up three injuries.

“Stefan Radu is out, while Hernanes needs a fitness test. I’ll try with Marius Stankevicius, but the situation is very bad and there’s no point denying it. We’re trying to push our way through these problems.

“I’ve never seen an injury crisis like it. We’ve had to miss 31 training sessions because of the weather and the games being so close to each other. Clearly by not working on fitness levels, you cannot prevent injuries.”

Reja then made an appeal to the Biancocelesti supporters at the Stadio Olimpico.

“This team is in trouble and needs the affection of its fans. Yesterday there were 1,000 supporters to help and cheer us on, which really fired us up and was immensely pleasing. Even if we are tired and there are only a few of us left, we will give everything until the last drop of sweat.”
Seriously, just shut up. blink.gif A couple players injured and they're talking about an injury crisis? There's no team like Lazio for crying, is there?

I think it does affect players, goals and subsequently results, but you have to play the games some time and it's not like it is ever not icy in at least northern Italy every winter.

Lazio: 'Roma project a flop'
By Football Italia staff

Lazio director Igli Tare launched a scathing attack on Roma, who “don’t have a winning project,” and asked for Thursday’s game with Cesena to be called off.

Reports emerged in the media today that the Biancocelesti are waiting until the summer so they can sign players on free transfers.

“I am stunned, as the news is completely false,” slammed director of sport Tare on Lazio Style Radio.

“We know the problems in this squad, but have never sought out players who are out of contract. The situation isn’t as dramatic as the newspapers like to claim.

“Our cousins have a project that is not proving to be a winning one, but they still get praised in the media. On the other hand, our club is working solidly to reach its objectives and proving its worth with facts, yet you read things in the papers that make us seem like a disaster area.”

Lazio were also furious that Sunday’s game with Genoa was allowed to go ahead after heavy snowfall and ice saw their journey from Rome take seven hours. During the match, Hernanes, Tommaso Rocchi and Marius Stankevicius picked up muscular injuries.

“It should not have been played,” continued Tare. “We requested the game be postponed and there was every reason to listen to us. In certain respects it has to be said that clubs are treated in very different ways, but this just fires us up more for the rest of the season.

“We are finding it very difficult to train this week, as the Formello grounds are covered in snow and ice. We have considered bringing the kick-off time of Lazio-Cesena forward or even postponing the game if the conditions do not allow for a normal match.”

The Serie A encounter is set to take place on Thursday evening at 19.45 UK time. It was brought forward from the weekend because of Italy’s Six Nations rugby match in Rome on Saturday.

Roma's project is long term with young players, so it's far too early to talk about it as a flop.

Still, they are a big club and the fans demand at least CL contention, even if realism has to come in now. There are 6-7 teams who are on a fairly similar level, Serie A is competitive now at this end of the table.

Wow, Lazio were 2-0 down at home to Cesena, but just scored 3 goals in 8 minutes.
