Seems there is a good chance he will be playing for Juve next season. Fingers crossed, we need another good defender. Centre back who can also play at fullback. In our formation only centre back I think.

More on Caceres:

Caceres to Juve talk grows

Daniel Fonseca, the former Roma and Napoli striker, has urged Juventus to sign fellow Uruguayan Martin Caceres from Barcelona.

The Bianconeri are in the market for a centre-back and have been trying to raise funds to buy one after spending £48m this summer.

Today's Tuttosport reports Caceres has already said yes to a move to Juventus.

Asked if he still stood by his decision to compare Caceres with Cannavaro, Fonseca replied: “I can confirm it today. I am not mistaken.

“I am only sorry that Barcelona made an important investment in Caceres only for him to find little space [in the team].

“Now the lad wants to go and play, while I, his agent, have to make him happy. I said so to Barcelona after Alessio Secco had his first meeting with them.

“I understand that they would find it hard to give Caceres away, but in front of him he has two Catalans in Puyol and Pique, and then there is Marquez.

“God forbid, no one at Juventus will give him guarantees, but they want him and I am optimistic. If they sign him, and I think they will in the next 10 days, they will have beaten competition from five or six important clubs.

“In Italy, Milan and Roma were also informed. I am optimistic for Juve and they will see that Caceres will surprise everyone.

“As for his future he said to me: 'do it,' and I replied: 'we're going to Juve.' Right now we are talking about a loan with a right to buy him at the end of the season.

“At 22 I have seen few players like him. He has the toughness of Ciro Ferrara, the Ferrara who played with me, and the speed of Cannavaro. A great jump and unique explosiveness,” Fonseca concluded.

He would be a good option to have.

Heard this is a done deal, could be a loan first with an option.

Secco:
QUOTE
"The situation is fluid - he says -. Almost done? Let's say that Fonseca is doing his job and we are doing ours. However you feel a certain optimism. Caceres would be the classic icing on the cake. He would be very convenient because he can play in all 4 roles of the defense."

Juve close on Caceres

And Poulsen looks set to leave Stadio Olimpico

Barcelona defender Martin Caceres has reached an agreement with Juventus regarding a move to Stadio Olimpico, according to the player's agent.

The former Villarreal ace only moved to Camp Nou in 2008, but he found first-team opportunities hard to come by as Barca won an unprecedented Treble last season.

Caceres' representative, Daniel Fonseca, now claims that Juventus want to bring the 22-year-old Uruguay international to Italy and that an arrangement is in place.

"Martin has reached a transfer agreement with Juventus," Fonseca told Radio Carve.

"There are still a few details to be resolved. But the agreement between the team and the player exists.

"For Barcelona, the difficulties are that they paid nearly €10million (£8.6m) and don't want to let Martin go on a loan. Therefore, everything seems to have been arranged."

Juventus, though, admit that they need to raise funds in order to complete any deal and midfielder Christian Poulsen could be sold in order to finance a move.

The Dane appears surplus to requirements and has been linked with Fulham, with Juventus president Giovanni Coboli Gigli acknowledging the 29-year-old may leave.

"It (a Caceres bid) is more than just rumours but it is also linked to Poulsen and the fact that we have to bring money in," said Coboli Gigli.

I like him a lot, we have fond memories of Uruguayan defenders here. I can see the similarities mentioned between he and Cannavaro, Ferrara and Montero. He has pace, he is all over defenders like a classic man marker, he jumps into tackes and through people a bit too much but would be a very good alternative and we need 5 central defenders, currently there is Chiellini, Cannavaro, Legrottaglie and Ariaudo only, with Grygera filling in.

Caceres ready for Juve

Barcelona centre-back Martin Caceres says he is ready to win things with Juventus, who are expected to sign him on loan either today or early next week.

A formal announcement confirming the deal has yet to be made, but Caceres is optimistic.

“For me, it's a feeling of great pride to be in the plans of a prestigious club like Juventus,” Caceres explained.

“For this reason, I hope the Bianconeri conclude a deal with Barcelona to the best of their ability. I have a great desire to start a new adventure.”

Having played with Ciro Ferrara, Caceres' agent, former Napoli and Juventus striker Daniel Fonseca, has been in a great position to help his client understand what it means to be a Juventino.

“My agent has explained everything about Juventus to me. Their style. The fact they never give up. I too am like this. I am the type of person who only wants to win,” Caceres revealed.

Barcelona signed Caceres from Villarreal last season, but the 22-year-old found two Catalans in front of him in the starting line up, namely Carles Puyol and Gerard Piqué.

He established his reputation as a versatile defender while on loan at Recreativo during the 2007-08 season, convincing Barcelona to pay €16.5m for his signature.

Caceres expected tomorrow

Juventus hope to close a deal for Barcelona centre-back Martin Caceres tomorrow, but negotiations rest on the future of Christian Poulsen.

Last week, Caceres' agent, Daniel Fonseca, announced an agreement had been made between Juventus and the player.

However, a few details need to be ironed out with Barcelona before Caceres can move to Turin on a season long loan.

The Spanish giants are reluctant to part with the 22-year-old Uruguay international who they signed from Villarreal in a €16.5m transfer last summer.

As a result, Juventus might not get the right to sign Caceres once his loan expires at the end of next season.

Alternatively, Barcelona will insert a right to buy clause and look to recoup as much of their initial outlay as possible should Juventus choose to sign him in a year's time.

Reports claim Fonseca has flown to Barcelona today where he will be joined by Juventus director of sport Alessio Secco tomorrow.

For talks to progress quickly the Bianconeri need to wrap up the future of Poulsen who has yet to agree a move to Fulham.

After spending over £48m this summer, Juventus need an influx of cash to keep the balance sheet happy.

Maybe tomorrow or the next couple of days, but I think Juve want to sell Poulsen before they even arrange a LOAN for Caceres as if he has a good season they will need the money.

It looks like his medical will be tomorrow. Apparently the deal is a loan with an option to buy for €12m.

Just waiting the official on the website, looks like this is a loan with option but we'll wait and see.
AlexRossi
Any word. He did pass his medical earlier today.

He is another great addition to our squad who can basically play any position in the back 4.
JuveJay
It's done as far as I know. They are just slow on the site, and are probably putting through paperwork.
JuveJay
BTW he'll wear the number 2 shirt.
JuveJay
Should be announced tomorrow (Monday).

He is training at HQ with Poulsen and Almiron.

Fucking Celtics..... thumbdown.gif
JuveJay
Even though he has been training at Juve HQ for a week now this deal has not been finalised yet. According to Sport newspaper the dispute is over who pays the 5% fee that is owed to Caceres' Uruguyan club, Barca think Juve should have to pay this on top of a future buyout clause, but Juve say it is included in the agreed transfer price (about €10m). So they are haggling over a few hundred thousand.
AlexRossi
Reports are emerging that this is now official.
JuveJay
Yes, he has been training with the other players today as well.

Cáceres, cedido a la Juventus

www.fcbarcelona.cat

-------------------

Juventus have took him on a season loan for €1m with the option to buy outright for €11m during this period. I think €11m for a player of his potential could be an absoloute steal, if he has a good season it will look like pennies really.

Official: Martin Caceres on loan at Juventus

Uruguay defender Martin Caceres will be playing for Juventus. The official notice arrived today with the transfer from Barcellona which foresees a loan for a year with an option on the definite transfer to Juventus.

The player, who last week underwent the medical tests and signed the contract with the bianconeri, was able to train with his new team mates yesterday, thanks to a go ahead from Barcellona. The completion of the transfer in bianconero was formulated today.

The Juventus sports director Alessio Secco expressed his satisfaction: «With the signing of Caceres we have concluded the transfer market signings and we are providing the coach with a quality defender who notwithstanding his age has already a vast international experience. His technical and personal characteristics – added Secco – should guarantee a quick adaptation to the group and Italian football».

Caceres: talent and personality

Born in Montevideo on the 7th April 1987, Josè Martin Caceres is one of the most promising young defenders in international football. Having been brought up in Defensor Sporting, he made himself known for his charisma, winning himself the captain band at 19 years of age. Also thanks to his early call-up with the Uruguay national team he was noted by European clubs and tried the big leap in 2007.

Villareal are the first to sign him, immediately transferring him to Recreativo Huelva with which team he had a season as protagonist, helping the team to avoid relegation and getting noted by Barcellona who signed him.

It is the beginning of the 2008/09 season, an unforgettable one for the blaugrana, who coached by Guardiola, managed to win the treble. In just a few months he won the Champions League, the Liga and the Coppa del Re. Caceres contributed by making important appearances in all the competitions.

Hence his transfer to Juventus, putting his skills at the disposal of Cito Ferrara especially the one of an all-rounder. The young South American can play in any role in the defence even though he has made his name mostly as a central defender.

With the signing of Caceres, Juventus have rekindled the tradition of Uruguay players which began in the 1940s with Raul Banfi and which developed in later years with players of the likes of Carini, O’Neill, Zalayeta, Olivera, Fonseca (Caceres’ agent) and especially Montero, the defender which all Juventus supporters hope Caceres will follow.
