The season-ticket number for Philadelphia currently stands at over 9,200 fans, ensuring that the new stadium will be brimming with energy as more than half of the capacity is already presold.

See them breaking 10K, maybe 11K before first match. Great work and another good sign for health of the league.

I'm one of them! tongue.gif

Really great news I wasn't expecting us to be this high this quickly to be honest with you.... hell of an accomplishment for a team with now players or kit yet..... and a stadium that is only now just starting to take shape.... as players get signed and the stadium really starts coming a long I think we'll get well over 10k..... I wonder where they will cap season ticket deposits for an 18,500 seat stadium..... 15K? seems plausible we could reach that number.....

Up to club, I'd guess 14K for first season be cap and maybe move it up if waiting list developed.

Supposedly the stadium will be "easily" expandable to 30k...... hopefully some day we pull that off...

Really, that's great news, maybe in 10-15 see that happen.

Thats what we were told at least, by "easy" i think they just mean they wouldn't need to take down the roof or change the foundation or whatever....... obviously I doubt they would build it all up at once, but if demand is high enough maybe in 5-10 years they can tack on an extra 5K seats somewhere.... then 5K more in another 15-20.... ect....
CK
Philadelphia are now over 9,500, 10k matter of time.

beats me.... supposedly a majority of the foundation is down, and that is what takes the most amount of time from what I hear..... The Steel got here a week or so ago, but supposedly that will go up fast.... so yeahhh

I'm not gonna pretend to know anything about the construction process, but people still seem fairly optimistic.... who knows what the winter will bring though....

I like the brickwork on the stadium. Hopefully it'll get done in time. I had no idea Philly was that into soccer. These last expansion teams seem very successful so far to me.

I hope.... the latest I heard was season tickets will be capped at 15K, which seems plausible... I'd imagine once the Kit is revealed and some players get signed we'll see a spike in season ticket numbers as well.

Climate is far better and many clubs endured 1996-2000 era of silly shirts and rules. I have little doubt if NY just got a club now it would do very well, for a while at least.

brick stadiums are always classy.
Thomas19064
Well, looks like they are projecting the stadium will not be done on time, but they are still projecting a vast majority of the games to be played in Chester....

Our home opener will be at Lincoln Financial Field on April 10th against DC United.....

Plans are to only sell tickets in the lower bowl putting capacity at 37,500.... hopefully we can fill that up....

Honestly it doesn't make much of a difference to me if we play 1 or 2 games at the Linc... both stadiums are equally easy to get to from my house tongue.gif I just hope we fill it out with a good crowd..... I'm sure there will be lots of traveling support from DC.

Be interesting to see if buzz can hold through club's first home match and then not long after, in their own stadium.

Honestly there isn't much buzz at all right now... murmurs more then anything....

I know for a fact that their first real marketing campaign (outside of a few billboards) should be starting VERY soon, pretty sure it will be focusing on season ticket sales..... so we'll see..... I'm sure the Superdraft and Expansion Draft will add to buzz as well... not to mention Nowak is scouting around in Europe right now..... Oh and the jersey release should give a big boost of buzz too..... that should be about a month away now....

Home opener at the Linc will be a big event, and the home opener at Chester will be another big event.... I think we will be ok....
CK
You don't want to start too early with a limited budget. Ramp up and then in 2010 make the big push. To have this built in fan base bodes well for a side that has yet to sign a player.

What kind of area is the stadium in?

if you go to a match and have a beer can you be reasonably secure in the knowledge that a gangbanger won't let it out you through little round holes?

The stadium is in the city of Chester, which basically boarders Philadelphia proper... only a few minutes south from Philadelphia International Airport.....

I'll be honest... Chester is a really shitty City once you get outside of the college or Hospital areas....

But in the teams defense, the area around the stadium I would imagine will be heavy with security on game days.. as well as the few block walk to the train.. I actually heard they may have a shuttle bus from the Train station to the Stadium to even add to convenience....Also the entire riverfront area around the stadium is going to be developed and be a pretty nice place to hang out it seems.

The city has been making strides to improve though... a Casino was recently built not far from the stadium that opened up, and a series of Charter schools opened up nearby as well, so the neighborhood fairly close to the stadium seems to be getting nicer......

What it boils down to is as long as your not being stupid and staying on the main roads everyone should be safe...

and if that isn't enough they are actually building a ramp off I-95 (major highway) that should lead directly to the stadium I believe too... odds are you'll be able to bypass any neighborhoods all together anyway if your driving.

I actually used to do a lot of work Carpet cleaning down in Chester.. it has rough neighborhoods, but if you act like you know what your doing you'll be fine... I feel like people too often act clueless and make themselves a target... The locals never gave me any trouble at least.... tongue.gif

Saw a few Sons of Ben at the Supporters Summit as well as the Final itself. Great to see supporters there for a team that has yet to even kick a ball clap.gif

Heck they were at MLS Cup 2007 laugh.gif

WTF LOL, what the fuck do they do? Cheer for an imaginary team?

Most of the other supporters we talked to have only spawned out in the past year or two. That made us feel quite good about ourselves.

Yup... used to use the following chant:

"We've won as many cups as you, Metro, Metro
We've won as many cups as you and we don't have a team
We don't have a team!
We don't have a team!
We've won as many cups as you and we don't have a team!"

2007 the SoBs were placed in the Revs section and all hell broke lose.. I'll try to find the youtube clips and the pictures when I get home from work.

Pretty much, and fight New England supporters laugh.gif

Yep, lots of young groups out there, i think big movement to capitalize on supporters than keep them down past few years. Cannot wait to see future of the league

We are starting at Lincoln Financial Field (the eagles stadium) on April 10th... will be in there for 1 or 2 games... rumors are that the first home game in Chester Stadium will be July 4th, but that is just speculation...
fantasista
Ahhh ok, I think what we did on year one was just start off with 3 or 4 away games until they finished the stadium... ours is just a pile of nuts, bolts and aluminum arranged in clever patterns while you guys are actually getting a proper stadium. *sigh* icon_mrgreen.gif

Don't get me wrong, I like BMO for what it is, but they could have given us something a bit more, well, finished... It really is absolutely bare-bones, the reason being that MLSE didn't want to spend too much money in case the team ended up being a flop, which obviously has been anything but the case... Hopefully over the next 10 or so years it gets upgraded bit by bit into a decent stadium.

picked out my seats last week.... so I figure its about time to post some new pictures:

Thomas19064
Also Rumor is that the Stadium has a sponsor from Pennsylvania Power & Light, 10 year 20 million dollar deal.... PPL Park will be the name apparently... people are already trying to coin the term "The Lighthouse"
CK
Curious, any comparison to other stadium sponsors in terms of time and money?

Is 2 million a year for 10 years good, bad, okay.
Thomas19064
From what I could gather it is right on Par with Rio Tinto, Dicks Sporting Goods.... a bit better than Pizza Hut and Toyota I believe... and The Home Depot Center makes everything pale in comparison... Also BMO is significantly higher as well i think....

I don't know for sure how accurate the numbers on the other stadiums were that I found... but basically its safe to assume that it is in the average/expected area for most MLS Stadiums...
Thomas19064
Some pictures since its been awhile... Seats are going in:
