The Italian SuperCup -- known widely in Italy as La SuperCoppa Italiana -- will once again serve as the curtain-raiser to a new season of calcio. Played each year on a warm August night, this year's match between league champions Inter and Coppa Italia holders Lazio will take place halfway around the world.
The game, in fact, will be played in Beijing -- as in China.
The match has been a hit with fans weary of preseason games -- often times drawing crowds of well over 45,000. Not bad given that half the country's citizens have fled cities and are on vacation, either lounging on the beach or hiking in the mountains.
Inter won last year's edition against Roma on penalties after both sides played to a 2-2 draw before 43,000 fans at the San Siro Stadium in Milan.
The Italian SuperCup has been played outside Italy before -- from RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, to New York's Giants Stadium to Tripoli in Libya -- but the game's start times were always set to appeal to audiences back home.
Not this year.
When Inter and Lazio play each other on Saturday at the Bird's Nest -- the same stadium that played hosted to the Summer Olympics last year -- at 8 a.m. ET (2 p.m. Italian time), Italians, both in this country and back in the homeland, will not be able to watch the game.
http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/soccer/arch..._supercu_1.htmlwill post live streams near time of match

Bright start from Eto'o, Lazio look nervous in defence. That starting XI for Inter looks very strong, it has to be said. Then they have Santon and Balotelli on the bench, but past that I'm not overly concerned with their depth.

Very dull game.
Not helped by the Rai Uno commentators talking like it is a training match.

The Matuzalem goal was lucky, the Rocchi goal was class. Eto'o's finish was also very good, although Dabo fucked up badly in possession.
