Vukčević earns Sporting chance
Wednesday 4 July 2007
Montenegrin international midfielder Simon Vukčević is the latest player to join Sporting Clube de Portugal following the signings of Gladstone, Derlei and Marat Izmailov.
'Big step'
Sporting have landed the 21-year-old on a reported five-year contract from Russian side FC Saturn Moskovskaya Oblast. "It's a big step in my career, Sporting are a big club, but I don't fear anything. I have lots of experience," said the former FK Partizan player, who helped Serbia and Montenegro to the semi-finals of the 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Portugal.
Debut success
Vukčević scored 13 goals in 51 appearances for Partizan then once in 28 league outings for Saturn. He won five senior caps for Serbia and Montenegro before, following independence, making his debut for Montenegro in March's 2-1 win against Hungary. He can now look forward to participating in Sporting's UEFA Champions League campaign, starting in the group stage in September.

Good signing, exciting player...but similar to Moutinho in terms of position I believe? With Derlei and Ismalov already in the bag, am hoping a good title challenge will be built up next season. Hopefully will give a good account of ourselves in the champs league...been waiting for that for ages!

As far as I know Vukčević is most comfortable on the left wing.

Well if so, that's a good Nani replacement. Hopefully he'll do the business

I don't think Sporting can can challenge to get out of their CL group. most likely they'll get English and Spanish Opposition and our best hope is the eufa cup

UEFA Cup is a far more realistic target for Sporting, they usually do well in that competition.
