Juventus - Catania

Stadio Olimpico Torino

Juventus have no option but to win against Catania after two dreadful defeats to Bayern Munich and Bari. But the Sicilians are desperate for points too…

The Bianconeri are going through a period of crisis following their Champions League elimination and their shock 3-1 defeat in Puglia. Ex-director Roberto Bettega is set to return to Turin in order to help Ciro Ferrara, but the Coach’s time is running out as Guus Hiddink and Roberto Mancini have been linked with the Old Lady.

“We can still win the Scudetto,” claimed Diego. But the fans are concerned neither him nor his Brazilians teammates, Felipe Melo and Amauri, are doing enough on and off the pitch.

“I think in terms of quality there isn’t much difference between us and Inter. Our squads are on the same level. Against Bari we played well but we were just unlucky,” added the former Werder Bremen ace.

Catania are bottom of the table and in desperate shape. Gianluca Atzori was fired last week but Sinisa Mihajlovic has been unable to change their luck so far. Last Sunday they lost by a goal to relegation rivals Livorno. “It’s sad to lose this way,” noted the Serbian. “I don’t think we deserved to lose because the Amaranto only had one shot on target.”

Ferrara will be forced to make several changes starting from Gigi Buffon, out for 40 days, and Mauro Camoranesi, whose injury may compromise his World Cup hopes.

Alexander Manninger will play in goal while Melo returns in midfield as Christian Poulsen is suspended. Amauri is not at his best so David Trezeguet and Alex Del Piero will start.

Catania will be without their best man Giuseppe Mascara, who is suspended. The Etnei should stick to a 4-2-3-1 strategy with Adrian Ricchiuti stepping in for Mascara behind Taka Morimoto, but their approach is set to be incredibly defensive.

Last year they managed to win a point at the Olimpico and will be looking to repeat the same kind of display this time around.

Keep an eye on: Diego (Juventus) – After missing a penalty against Bari, the Brazilian must prove he is worth his hefty transfer fee. Juve have been waiting long enough so it is time to show his true potential.

Last five in Serie A: Juventus (W W L W L) Catania (D D L L L)

Last season: Juventus 1-1 Catania

Juventus (probable): Manninger; Caceres, Cannavaro, Legrottaglie, Grosso; Melo, Tiago, Marchisio; Diego; Trezeguet, Del Piero

Catania (probable): Andujar; Alvarez, Silvestre, Terlizzi, Capuano; Carboni, Biagianti; Martinez, Ledesma, Ricchiuti; Morimoto

Furious fans hurled eggs at the Juventus team bus when it arrived for today's game with Catania.

The club has been under pressure since the Champions League exit to Bayern Munich and last week's 3-1 defeat against Bari.

Coach Ciro Ferrara declared he would “never” resign, but was greeted by a violent protest when the team bus arrived at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

Rotten eggs were thrown at the bus windows and there were also fireworks on the roadside, as fans insulted the tactician and players.

The Bianconeri take on Catania in a Serie A game that kicks off today at 14.00 GMT.

Alessandro Del Piero has been left on the bench, so Diego starts behind Amauri and David Trezeguet.

JUVE (4-3-1-2): Manninger; Caceres, Cannavaro, Legrottaglie, Grosso; Tiago, Felipe Melo, Marchisio; Diego; Amauri, Trezeguet.
JuveJay
Catania are last in the classifica, if we don't win this then forget it.
JuveJay
Tiago in again, dear.
JuveJay
Catania closing down quickly, we need a goal in the first half.
JuveJay
Amauri has gone for the caveman look today.
JuveJay
What a horrible lineup though lol, Ferrara better hope we can nick a win.
JuveJay
Morimoto got clear through then but Legrottaglie just managed to knock him off the ball, our defence is a joke.
JuveJay
Why the fuck are Catania the team looking like scoring?
JuveJay
Diego holds on too long, ballerina Tiago with a weak shot in the end.
JuveJay
Penalty Catania, Tiago just basically ripped the forwards shirt off, fucking retard.
JuveJay
Martinez scores, but took too early, so retake.
JuveJay
Scores the retake. Fucking embarrassing. Juventus 0-1 Catania.

Does Ferrara want the sack or something? Playing that fucktard Tiago?

He literally ripped the sleeve from the attackers shirt in the area. Fuck off Ferrara, and take Tiago with you.
JuveJay
The jeers are loud now.
JuveJay
We might still get something as Catania are bad in defence, but this is a terrible performance again.
JuveJay
Trezeguet inches wide, but offside.
JuveJay
Great ball in from Marchisio, Amauri not on the end as usual.

MELO YOU STUPID LAZY TWAT, THIS IS A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL MATCH, NOT A FUCK ABOUT WITH YOUR FRIENDS
JuveJay
Melo has been subbed after 32 minutes hahaha.gif hahaha.gif Salihamidzic on.

Fucking terrible, he doesn't even look interested. He walked off as if he was going shopping, useless twat.
JuveJay
Some of the Drughi have congregated at the front, looks like they might try and jump the fence at half time!

Others have left the game already.

Looks like there will be many things to talk about after this game... and Ciro will have a leisure time at home with his family... blink.gif
JuveJay
Diego doesn't always do well but look how he puts himself about, unlike his compatriot in midfield. Moggi was wrong that he hides, he is just in the wrong area of the pitch. It is all wrong, just terrible.
JuveJay
JuveJay
Wow I haven't seen it so bad since 99 I think.
JuveJay
Diego booked.
JuveJay
Tiago does one useful thing all game and the referee penalises him for it haha.

What does the sentence mean, Jay?
JuveJay
Loud whistles at half time, but loud jeers and chanting against the board and players all through the match. The French volleyball director just looks as impassively clueless as ever.

Ferrara isn't getting the stick as he is a legendary player, but as a coach when the going has been tough - fucking clueless. Terrible lineup, ridiculous sub of Melo after half an hour for Brazzo, picking the same underperforming players all the time. Tactically well I just have to laugh, it is just make it up as you go along. Diego has no link man with two giant striker and ballerina-cum-professional wrestler Tiago alongside him.

Our tactics seem to be long ball up to our strikers who never win a header, or getting the ball wide to the technically average Caceres to cross.

So far only Marchisio and Caceres can say they have done anything worthwhile.
