He seems to live in a bizarre world of denial.

don't most coaches?

So you have the Mail saying he will have a world record salary and an 'unlimited' transfer budget, then the BBC saying we can't afford his wages laugh.gif

It's clear what Benitez is doing - he is tempted by Juve and will move, but he wants to see what happens at Liverpool first with the takeover. If someone comes in and gives him £75m then obviously he will stay there. Benitez isn't going to comment either way, as it would affect his severence payment/future at Liverpool.

Benitez: 'Things have changed'

Rafa Benitez admits “conditions changed” since he signed a contract extension with Liverpool, the clearest sign yet he’s heading for Juventus.

The manager has until now been adamant that his future is not up for debate despite repeated rumours of a deal in place with the Turin giants.

“I decided to sign an extension because the squad was good and the money was going to be there. But the conditions changed,” declared Benitez to the British media.

“We've had a bad season and hopefully things will be different in the future, but at the moment I can't talk about the future because I don't know what's going on.”

Co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are on the verge of selling the club, which for Benitez makes a huge difference to his contract until June 2014.

“I left Valencia because conditions changed,” he added of that 2004 departure from the Mestalla.

“It was not a question of my money that I stayed at Liverpool. I said 'no' to other massive offers. I decided to stay under certain conditions and they have changed.

“The players share the same frustrations. I know how they feel because I've been talking to them all season. The season has not been good, that is clear. We know why and what has to change.”

I'll be massively surprised if he isn't at Juve next season. And you know, I agree with Ancelotti when he says he thinks he will do well in Italy, I think his tactical setup is much more suited to Italy.

J.J. I've already said to you I'd prefer to see an Italian as Juventus coach, but as we see, there is no-one currently available with enough talent to give you success beyond Serie A.

To me it really does look at lot more like it's a case of taking Juve's offer as the best he'll get if things go from worse to desperate in Liverpool for him...as Sean said a couple of posts back.

However, I'm still not convinced Benitez wants to come to Italy at all, irrespective of which club we care to mention. I know he speaks Italian, I know he has studied il calcio, and I think he probably could do well enough for you but he's not a Juventino at heart and with that said, Didi Deschamps still seems a pretty reasonable prospect!

It looks like Beppe Marotta is going to come in from Sampdoria as the new GM, with Sergio Gasparin of Udinese set to replace him. People are suggesting that this might scupper the Benitez deal. It looks like Marotta wants to bring in his own people, and Benitez is not one of his choices.

Rumours are very strong now. I think Benitez will be announced Juve manager before the fortnight is up or the Juve deal will go. Juventus definitely want an announcement very soon, if we are to believe most sources.

We shall see, but unless advanced negotiations are taking place behind closed doors at Liverpool, I just don't see how he will get the assurances he wants about transfer money. Latest rumour is DIC are close securing a £500m deal to buy Liverpool but who the hell knows what to believe

Feelings? Surprised? Disappointed?

I'm still waiting for confirmation icon_mrgreen.gif

I think Benitez would do better in Italy than England, but he is not by first choice anyone so if we didn't get him I'm a bit 'meh'.

il capitano
would he leave Sampdoria after he guided them to the CL ?

anw if he goes to Juve, that will bring my hate for juve to a whole new level.
JuveJay
Erm, why?
il capitano
because he's always coming out in the press slashing us and saying how he regret spending 6 months with us as a coach ( he did f**k all and was a liability )

he thinks he's too good or smth and the latest, he led the side that took us out of the championship. f**k him.

I would rather we went with Prandelli, I don't want to pick a coach based on one season like Del Neri, we are just going to flop again. His record is very patchy.

Anyway, some are saying it's a done deal, pretty sad really.

Del Neri poised to join Juve

Sections of the Italian media believe Juventus have agreed a deal with Sampdoria boss Gigi Del Neri and that the only thing missing is his signature.

Del Neri became the favourite to replace interim manager Alberto Zaccheroni at the weekend when talks with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez broke down.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Del Neri is prepared to accept Juventus' offer, which is said to be worth €3m over two years.

Del Neri's ability to manage difficult personalities like Antonio Cassano was one of the key reasons Juventus favoured his candidacy over that of Cesare Prandelli.

Things are now expected to move very fast with Juventus looking to make up the ground they lost chasing Benitez.

Meetings between the two parties will be held on Monday while a formal announcement confirming the deal is expected on Wednesday when Juventus' major shareholders meet again.

It is GDS, so could be full of it.

It's only Tuttoshit so it means nothing, but if that's our side next season we will be mid table.
fantasista
It's just pure speculation, the Gazzetta, Corriere and Tuttosport will publish any rumour they hear, and make up a fair few of them themselves just for the hell of it. I personally can't see Del Neri being hired for absolute certain, there are better and more qualified coaches out there.
