The Brazilian is going to miss the rest of the season. 6 months for recovery.

Really sad, he's probably one of the best left backs in the league

Atlético wrap up deal for defender Filipe Luis
By Soccernet staff
July 24, 2010

Brazilian full-back Filipe Luis has joined Atlético Madrid from Deportivo La Coruña in a deal that is reported to be worth €13.5 million.

Depor announced on Friday that the 24-year-old had been given permission to undergo a medical in the Spanish capital and the formalities of the deal have now been completed.

The signing of Filipe Luis is something of a coup for Atlético as the defender was linked with a move to Barcelona last summer.

He was also expected to be in contention for a place in Brazil's World Cup squad but suffered a broken ankle in January, ending his hopes of featuring in South Africa.

The sale of the defender will allow Depor to settle a reported debt of €4 million owed to Sergio Gonzalez. Failure to pay the outstanding wages by August 2 could have seen Depor relegated to the Segunda Division.

Smart move for Atlético, who are also after Diego Godin (Villarreal).

No doubts over his fitness?

No doubts over his fitness?

He passed the medical, so I would suppose not.

Atlético have now added Diego Godin for €10m. That is a significant improvement to their defence.

They are pretty close to Tiago too, just having problems with his wages (Secco dry.gif).
