Zampa: 'Rossi an insult to football'

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini bitterly criticised Delio Rossi for “an insult to football” and ordered him to always start two star players.

The Rosanero were beaten 4-1 at Roma on Saturday and Coach Rossi drew fire for leaving Javier Pastore and Abel Hernandez on the bench.

“I shall start off by saying it was an insult to football that Pastore was not in the starting XI,” slammed the notoriously vocal Zamparini.

“I consider that a lack of courage from my Coach. I told him he’d have to take responsibility for this decision.

“From now on I want to see Pastore and Hernandez always on the pitch, as they will be the key figures for next season’s team.”

The result means Sampdoria have leapfrogged Palermo in the standings and either Juventus or Genoa could do the same.

“Palermo lost because they were arrogant,” continued President Zamparini in his radio interview.

“Now enough talk about Champions League qualification. I only saw Roma on that pitch, it’s absurd the way we conceded those goals.

“Cesare Bovo was unjustifiable, his mistakes made him look like a circus clown. It rings alarm bells about the defence, as we have conceded eight goals in our last two away games.”

Zampa: Zac & Ranieri are lucky
Monday 22 February, 2010
Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini believes both Alberto Zaccheroni and Claudio Ranieri were lucky at the weekend.

Juventus managed to beat Bologna away and Roma struggled more than expected to overcome Catania at the Olimpico.

“I am happy the championship has been reopened following this week's results,” said the Rosanero patron.

“However, Zaccheroni and Ranieri were lucky to win these ones and luck doesn't last for ever.

“Roma have had a fantastic season so far. Juve have a good side but needed more experience.

“Ciro Ferrara will become a great manager but I was right when I said the Bianconeri had given a Ferrari to drive to a Coach who has just got his license.

“There have been rare cases with Fabio Capello and Pep Guardiola, but it cannot be considered a rule.

“I am a bit disappointed Amauri returned to score. He is a great champion and I was just waiting for Juventus to offload him back to us,” concluded the Sicilians President.

'If only Inter had Ranieri'

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini believes Inter would be miles ahead at the top of Serie A if Claudio Ranieri were in charge.

The Roma boss has taken his side from the relegation zone to within a point of the League leaders with seven games remaining this season.

Speaking to Sky Sport 24, Zamparini said: “Inter are the strongest team in Serie A, but Ranieri is making the difference.

“I would exchange Coaches. If Inter were to have Ranieri they would be 15 points in front of Roma.”

Zamparini then revealed that he is doing everything to keep Palermo's stars at the club amid interest from Europe's biggest clubs.

“I will not sell my jewels,” he said. “Palermo believe in fourth place and in qualification for the Champions League.

“I reject the claims that Juve are close to signing Kjaer. I repeat that none of our champions are leaving.

“Pastore and Hernandez have never been put on the market also because in a couple of years' time, they will be worth €50m and €35m respectively.”

UFOs visit Palermo President

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini believes UFOs may have paid him a visit this week.

Zamparini woke up yesterday morning to find a series of crop circles in one of the grain fields he owns in Friuli.

“It's a really strange feeling,” Zamparini explained. “To say there have been UFOs would be an exaggeration.

“The problem is that in this region of Italy these strange phenomena have been repeating themselves for some time.

“It could be the work of a man even if a similar job would take at least 20 people and it's strange that no one realised them doing it.”

Zamparini is known for his outlandish statements, but even he appears dumbfounded this time.

Saudi interest in Palermo

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has been talking to Saudi prince Abdul Mohsin Al-Hokair about investing in the club.

Zamparini is already in business with Al-Hokair building new commercial centres in Riyadh in which Italian products will only be sold.

Al-Hokair was a guest at Palermo's training camp in Bad yesterday evening.

Zamparini has ambitious plans for Palermo, which include a new ground, something Al-Hokair appears keen to be involved in.

“I don't exclude getting into football with Palermo,” he said. “Investments in Sicily interest me a lot, a stadium in the first place.

“We will organise a friendly with the Rosanero in Riyadh when we open 'Casa Italia' after Ramadan.”

When asked to explain his relationship with Al-Hokair, Zamparini said: “The prince is our good luck charm. I am proud to be his friend.

“I want to involve him in our world: we will win the Scudetto with him.”

--------------------------

Maybe just typical Zampa, or maybe he is expecting a lot of Saudi money in the future, interesting.

good for Italy, bad for teams like Sampa, Genoa, Fiorentina who will have a big big fight for that 4th place.

think its a long long way before they even break into the top 2, even with money.

He later said that the prince had no plans to invest, but couldn't say never in the future.

Update 10:50CET: Palermo have released an official statement confirming Zamparini's plans and the reasons behind them.

An extract of the statement on Ilpalermocalcio.it reads:

"I have given the task to find an advisor, bank or other to help with the sale of my shares in Palermo football club.

"My decision is a net one even though I will suffer by leaving a great fan base like the one here at Palermo to which I am tied to.

"Of course, the new owners would have to be of the level to guarantee and maintain us being a great club.

"Everything is down to the fact that I feel beaten by a false sports world where values gave gone and where the economic and media powers of three and four teams dominate and want the Scudetto's between them.

"I am tired of fighting and I hope to leave it up to younger people with the enthusiasm to fight on and do what I was unable to: taking football back into sport and obtain the real values, assuring sports loyalty and equality so that we can win with equal arms when being the best.

"Maurizio Zamparini."

---------------

Nothing has changed Zampa, you're right, Italian football is just in line with every other league where the big powerful teams get the decisions. No need to sell up though.
Funki
He's probably not the only one who thought about doing that after a match.

If he doesn't change his mind after sleeping on it, I wonder how it will affect the club.

Zamparini: 'I'll never leave Palermo'

Exactly two weeks after announcing his intention to sell up, Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has backtracked, insisting that he will never leave the club.

Zamparini was incensed following Palermo's 3-1 defeat to Milan at San Siro on November 10, questioning the integrity of the game after several poor refereeing decisions.

Interviewed in Italian magazine Oggi, Zamparini said: “I will never leave Palermo.”

However, he didn't rule out seeking new investment, which could mean selling a percentage of his stake in the club and maybe even ceding control.

“I will hold on to the shares,” he said.

“Among the possible buyers, there is an Arab prince who is a friend of mine. If he arrives, Pastore won't leave.

“Real Madrid have offered €25m through an intermediary.”

'Pastore is better than Menez'
Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has stoked up the fire ahead of this weekend's clash with Roma, claiming that Javier Pastore is better than Jeremy Menez.

Yesterday Claudio Ranieri expressed his belief that Menez has been the best player in the League so far this season.

“Pastore is a player from another level,” Zamparini said. “Menez is a great player, a little like Cavani. But Pastore is a world-class player like Ibrahimovic or Messi.

“I have offers worth €50m for the Argentine. I don't know if Roma have also had offers of the same value for Menez.

“The offers come from abroad, but I won't be selling Pastore either for €50m or €60m. He is staying at Palermo.”

I never thought to compare Menez with Pastore. Really interesting that Zampa thought to do it. Shows Menez is on his mind.

Maybe he can write Menez's name on his school books too.

Zamparini: 'Put refs in prison!'
Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini wages his fiercest attack yet on referees. “We should put them all in prison. They’re either incompetent or in bad faith.”

The Sicilians have complained of refereeing errors all season and were defeated 3-1 in Cagliari this afternoon.

The game opened with Alessandro Matri scoring while in an offside position.

“I don’t know what else to do. We should put them all in prison,” blasted Zamparini on Mediagol.

“We cannot understand what is happening. The offside was at least a metre today, not a few centimetres.

“If the referee didn’t see it, then he is incompetent and should change profession, because even a child could see that was offside.

“If he did see it, then I have to think he wielded his flag in bad faith. It is evident that this result was decided by a refereeing error and that offside goal, because until the opener Palermo were more than in the game.”

When asked if he would encourage fans to stage a Spanish-style ‘panolada’ protest of waving white handkerchiefs, Zamparini was dismissive.

“That wouldn’t do anything. The problem is that the refereeing system needs to change. They cannot say these are just mistakes when the errors always go against the same team.

“Our 2011 started exactly the same way as 2010 ended, with refereeing errors against us. In three games of this new year, we have had three huge and decisive errors against us.

“I will now ask the refereeing designator for an official explanation for what is happening to Palermo. If he tells me they are simple mistakes, then I’ll accept that, but he has to say it.

“He has to look back over all the incidents and give me an explanation. I think it is our right to ask for answers.”

hahaha.gif hahaha.gif

It's true though, they are a joke.

Palermo have been the most victimised team in the league this year without doubt, some of the decisions that have gone against them border on the ludicrous, and it's all because Zampa speaks out and has no power.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has already warned third Coach of the campaign Bortolo Mutti “he made mistakes I never want to see again.”

The fiery patron sacked Stefano Pioli before the Serie A season even began, then fired Devis Mangia before Christmas, but so far Mutti has managed a 2-2 draw at Novara and 3-1 home defeat to Napoli.

“Mutti made a huge tactical error by transforming the side between the first and second half,” slammed Zamparini on Mediagol.

“It’s a situation and some mistakes that I never want to see again.”

Midfielder Giulio Migliaccio concedes the squad is rather shaken up by the chaotic campaign.

“We probably had a few too many changes, as in the last six months we have gone through two directors of sport and three Coaches.

“We should also add something that is often forgotten, that we are the youngest team in Serie A. But we will get out of it.”

Palermo have already moved on the January transfer market by officially taking Chilean defender Carlos Labrin back from his loan spell at Novara.
Honestly, I don't understand how anyone could work for this man knowing that the odds of lasting an entire season behind the bench are positively astronomical. I wouldn't be surprised if a defeat in the next match means the end of Mutti. laugh.gif

It's just for the money and to build reputation. Delio Rossi did that, he played along and took the shit, got sacked and returned over and over, got paid more money, then a serious club realised he is a good coach and he was set.
