Juventus - Palermo

Stadio Olimpico Torino

Preview to follow....

Not really an easy game for us at all, and we owe Palermo for what was basically a thrashing in Sicily with that horrible tactical setup of Ferrara's. Miccoli always causes us problems but we have looked more solid recently and hopefully we can win, we really need to win our home games.

Cavani: 'Beat Juve, then join them!'

Edinson Cavani has an ulterior motive in wanting to score tomorrow night. “My dream has always been to play for Juventus.”

The Palermo striker comes to Turin in a game you can watch LIVE on ESPN from 19.45 GMT on Sunday.

“Since the age of 13 when I was in Uruguay, my dream has always been to play for Juventus,” he told Tuttosport.

“At that time Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet were already there, two absolute idols. Now I’ve grown up and play against them, but they’re still the best.

“It is a very important game for us, as we believe in Champions League qualification. I didn’t expect to meet Juve in fourth place, as I thought they’d be in the thick of the Scudetto race.”

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini said he would only sell Cavani for 30m Euros.

“If one day he decides to release me, he’ll know what price to ask for,” said the Uruguayan.

“For now I am only focused on scoring goals and bringing Palermo into the Champions League.

“I try to base myself on Ruud Van Nistelrooy, although with more pace and less class. I’d love to have the technical abilities and intelligence of Diego Milito matched with the speed of Wayne Rooney.”

-----------------------

I'd have him, he is a good choice both for the present and future. He better not score tomorrow though....

Dire performance, dire scoreline, there is no way we can possibly finish fourth without a full squad. Trezeguet and Del Piero simply can't play in this system as they can't run into space, it's narrow and all it takes is doubling up on Diego to nullify our whole attack. I'm not even going to watch the last minutes, it is such a chore. Miccoli scored a class goal, he always scores past Juve. Exactly the sort of player we could have done with in our current system.

Only saw the second half, but Juve were woeful, Palermo deserved their win.
JuveJay
We were woeful all game, it was a pathetic performance.

Zac has made the team so negative now it can't even create many decent chances, although there were a couple of half chances first half that is simply not good enough. We need one of Iaquinta or Amauri for this system and won't do anything until one comes back. As usual, get players back, get a decent couple of results, another couple of key injuries and then bam, we lose. I'm really tired of this same old shit, we are handicapped every fucking match.
DevilDave59
Roy Hodgson will be licking his lips then.
JuveJay
You can't do much about the first goal, it was a great shot. The second goal was fucking laughable from Grygera. And then to sum Zac up he takes Diego off for Zebina at 0-2 hahaha.gif hahaha.gif Well with injuries and this coach it will take something special to get fourth, that's for sure.

In one way I wouldn't mind a season not in the CL, it would enforce big changes at the club both in the directors, playing staff and coaching staff. This club took a massive backwards step this season and it needs people who are amongst the best to come in and do a proper job. Juve are settling for second rate coaches and second rate sporting directors whilst trying to blend several news buys in a new system(s) into a team whilst contending with 52 injuries (so far). It's been a nightmare season, I'll be glad when it's over.

We have better players than Fulham, let's be honest, but we have to actually have them on the pitch and in a system that works.

Very sad icon_mrgreen.gif

Even more sad that Diego is not allowed to win a free kick or penalty, must be because he is too theatrical.
JuveJay
Looking at the highlights again we had those two call go against us, the pen and disallowed goal.

So basically well done Jose cheers.gif

Zac: 'We couldn't hurt a fly'

Alberto Zaccheroni insists the problems at Juventus are “purely physical,” but concedes “we couldn’t hurt a fly tonight.”

The Bianconeri had been unbeaten since Zac replaced Ciro Ferrara at the helm, but they fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Palermo that sends the Sicilians into fourth place.

“I think I am starting to understand Juve,” said the Coach. “We picked up points recently by remaining united and the hard work of our available players.

“However, with the Europa League commitments as well, we need a few more options for the first team.

“We had already dropped a little in fitness last week against Bologna, but we managed to make up for it with changes in midfield.

“Tonight in the second half we visibly fell away on a physical level. In midfield, which is the engine of the team, I did not have any alternatives.”

The first half performance was also fairly dire with barely any chances to trouble Salvatore Sirigu.

“Palermo were smart to let us tire ourselves out in the first half. We played decent football, but it was slow and sterile. We couldn’t hurt a fly tonight,” confessed Zaccheroni.

Diego was again disappointing and the Coach raised eyebrows when he replaced the trequartista with defender Jonathan Zebina in the final minutes.

“It was obvious how tired he was. If I could, I’d leave Diego out for a few games, as it’s since the start of the season that he, Giorgio Chiellini and Felipe Melo are playing continually.

“With so many games in the fixture list, it can happen for players to lose their sharpness. Diego needs to rest, but I am waiting for some of the injured players to recover before I can give him that time off.”

Speaking to Juventus's official website, Chiellini said: “Unfortunately we paid a little for our tiredness. You saw the abysmal difference between the first and second halves.

“We deserved at least a goal in the first half while in the second they outclassed us physically.

“Today's objective was to win and consolidate fourth place with a thought to what Roma were doing, but the collapse in the second half has not allowed us to do it.

“Then Miccoli's great goal took our hand off the game. Also Grygera's error on the second goal is the fruit of this tiredness,” Chiellini concluded.

Perhaps we should just play the youth team for the next game, we will lose it either way huh.gif
