“The main issue is not the financial aspect as I can guarantee that Juventus will have one of the biggest transfer budgets in Europe.

“In any case, we have agreed with the other officials not to say anything until this situation comes to an end and that is exactly what will happen.”

He's talking big again, this time when talking about Buffon.
Whether we sell Buffon or not we will have a huge budget.

Anyway, so if what he says is true, who would you like to see signed?

I think Secco needs to take some more transfer advide from Moggi as players like Iaquinta and Mesto are good players but either unproven or not what we need.

Central defence (2 top class)
Central midfield (1 top class, 1 promising)
Left midfield (1 top class)

This is what we need, put your money where your mouth is Secco and get some top players.
DDK
EPL clubs will match them with Aston Villa, West Ham, Liverpool all having billionaire owners. Soon Man City and Newcastle will have billioanire owners, so big competiton for qaulity players. By the way JuveJay you're not italian are you?
sophie
What does the EPL have to do with Juve's transfer fund. Anyway, as much as I hate Juventus, no one in their right mind would pick Man City, Newcastle, West Ham or Aston Villa over Juventus, regardless of how rich their owners are.
JuveJay
I don't think Juve will have to worry about competing with the likes of Villa, West Ham, Man City and Newcastle for players, only Liverpool.
I'm English-Italian, my mother is Italian so it depends how you look at it. My family is originally from Reggio and now live near Siena, my other side is mixed Welsh-Scottish so I don't feel very English but I am a proud Coventrian.
DDK
Yeah great to see the old lady rising again. They should sign Phillip Lahm, Nani, Diego, Huntelaar, Mascherano, Naldo.
JuveJay
The opinion amongst Juventini is (generally) Barzagli, Milito, Sissoko, Almiron, Ribery and Huntelaar.
That would cost a huge amount though.
Rentboy
Sign all you want, but can DD handle the big egos? We shall see.
Pippo
all shall kneel before DP!
Romanista
Juve should get Almiron and Ribery, i read that barzagli was already theirs....in my view, get rid of Buffon cuz his getting on my nerves, and buy amelia or bring back de sanctis..
Juve should also go for One of machesters defenders, Heinze can leave i guess..

would you be intrested in Kuffour icon_mrgreen.gif
sophie
They were interested in Kuffour a while back I believe, but now they have their claws set on getting Chivu and/or Mexes grin.gif

does that include referees ?

Yes, lotsa them we even buying Collina back, happy?

JuveJay
Central defence is the main priority, we need a top class defender back there, two in fact.
Central midfield comes next. Secco has to get it right though, no point wasting large amounts of money on average players, and he should also keep quiet about our budget.

Secco Set To Leave Juve - Report
Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco is set to leave the club, and take up a similar role at Genoa, according to Leggo.

Secco replaced Luciano Moggi as the man in charge of transfer operations at Juventus following the Calciopoli crisis, however he has become a hugely unpopular figure among Bianconeri supporters following a long-line of disastrous purchases.

Secco has mostly come under-fire for his signings of Jean-Alain Boumsong, Sergio Almiron and Tiago Mendes, who joined the club for a total fee of around €27m.

He has also been criticized for attempting to offload Giorgio Chiellini last summer to Manchester City, while his signing of Liverpool bench-warmer Momo Sissoko for €13m also raised eye-brows.

According to Leggo, Secco’s planned signings for this summer’s transfer market did not go down well with director general Jean-Claude Blanc.

Secco had identified Gilberto Silva, Frank Lampard, Johan Elmander, Lubos Kalouda and Martin Fenin as his main targets, players Blanc did not warm to.

As a result Secco could now be forced out of the club to take up a position at Genoa, where he has a good relationship with current coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

As a replacement for Secco, Juventus are said to be looking at Giovanni Sartori, who was responsible for building the ‘miracle Chievo’ team who stunned Serie A earlier in the decade.

This is absolutely fantastic news. I'm not sure if I'm more excited about Secco leaving, or Santori arriving. 3df16e20b5.gif

I love Cobolli's reply to this:

"If Secco is wanted by other clubs, it means he is doing a good job"

Er, no! Pasquale Marino please, the new best guy in the business.
JuveJay
Just noticed Sartori has been mentioned, he is certainly better than Secco, but Marino is my first choice.

Juventus director of sport Alessio Secco hints they could be making a few more signings before the summer is out.

“As our President said, Juve’s transfer activity is pretty much closed, but we are leaving the door open just a crack,” he confessed in Tuttosport.

“At times there can be strange situations, unexpected events that give you the opportunity to make a swoop at the last moment.”

Among those rumoured to be the cherry on the Bianconeri cake is Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic, who could arrive in a straight swap for Tiago Mendes.

“I swear I know nothing about it. This story is all dreamed up by journalists.”

The fans were not happy with the midfield developments that brought in Christian Poulsen, but his pre-season friendly performances have begun to win some of them over.

“They did exactly the same thing with Momo Sissoko. He was given a frosty welcome, but now is the fans’ favourite,” continued Secco.

“Fausto Rossi has also done well this summer and he will be one of the two youth team players who will consistently train with the senior squad this season. It’s a chance to mature, experience top competitions and possibly face prestigious opponents.

“We want to follow Barcelona’s lead, as they would give Leo Messi, Dos Santos and Bojan some space at a very young age. If someone if talented at 17, why not give him the chance to shine?

Juventus are likely to begin their Champions League adventure against Artmedia Petrzalka, who lead Finns Tampere United 3-1 from the first leg.

“It was a fortunate draw, we cannot deny it,” continued the Bianconeri director of sport.

“We all agreed that we wanted to avoid Atletico Madrid and Galatasaray. The draw went the right way for us.”

Don't be surprised to see another goalkeeper come in shortly (Manninger) and also maybe even an attacking midfield player (Stankovic dry.gif), or maybe even a real shock if someone becomes available.

Juventini05
I hope he doesn't mean leaving it open a crack to sign Manninger, i mean i do like the guy, but we need atleast 1 quality Defensive signing, and maybe a midfeilder... yes even stankovic is an option if it came down to it...
Thorisgodpoo
Is Schweini still a possibility or even on the radar currently for Juventus?
bianconeri
Schweinsteiger isnt on the radar any more.

I dont think we will be buying again, if we do i hope its a right back. Grygera and Zebina are rubbish

Not rubbish Luca, just not Zambrotta in his peak icon_mrgreen.gif

Juve show faith in Secco

Juventus have officially extended the contract of sporting director Alessio Secco until 2011.

Secco has come under fire for his transfer dealings in recent years and was lambasted for the signatures of midfield flops Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron.

But he has also done some good business and Amauri and Momo Sissoko are flying the flag for his regime.

“Juventus have decided to renew Secco's contract as sporting director earlier than planned,” a statement from Jean-Claude Blanc reads.

“During the last two and a half years Secco has shown his talents and professionalism.

“By consolidating his position, Juventus are able to give stability to the sporting project.”

Secco, who took over the post in the aftermath of the Calciopoli scandal, was clearly delighted by the decision.

“The faith of the club and the recognition for the work I have done with my staff to bring Juve back to the top of the Italian and world game is much appreciated.

“I can only guarantee that I will continue to work to build a competitive squad able to bring happiness to all the Juventus fans.”

huh.gif Well all the best. I think Cobolli may be gone in the summer so there might be some changes regardless.

Almiron was the big flop, Tiago had started to show he could play before he got injured, so he hasn't done too badly.

For a team in our financial position last year and general standing he couldn't have done much better.

A gamble too far?: http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_ita...blogs/al82.html

Labbate seems pretty anti-Secco, I think the split is still probably about 30:70 in favour of him.

Blog: Hold on a Sec

With Juventus impressing the most on the transfer market so far, Charles Ducksbury thinks we may have underestimated the ability of Alessio Secco

It’s no secret that Juventus made a move for Beppe Marotta recently. The Sampdoria official, if reports are to be believed, was wanted to hold the hand of the developing Alessio Secco, the club’s ambitious but inexperienced sporting director. Marotta rejected the opportunity, for now, but was he ever needed?

Secco has made some mistakes, but look at what the club have achieved since they bounced back from Serie B with him in his new role post Calciopoli. A serious title challenge in 2007-08 was out of the question, but a top four spot seemed attainable – and was.

Admittedly the signings of Sergio Almiron and Tiago Mendes were not a great success, but they weren’t and aren’t bad players. Tiago had done reasonably well for Chelsea, while Almiron was only given 10 games for the club. Is that really enough time to judge a player? It wasn’t what Secco bought, it was what he paid for them that was the problem.

Momo Sissoko then touched down in January and was greeted with widespread scepticism, but he changed opinions with some all action displays. A third place finish in Serie A was an achievement to be proud of.

The summer arrived and with it Amauri and, more controversially, Christian Poulsen. But the Dane wasn’t Secco’s error, who had been pursuing Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso for months. A deal was virtually done, but Claudio Ranieri wanted the less creative Poulsen instead.

The squad was again strengthened by Secco and Co, but Ranieri seemed to undo all the good work. Bizarre substitutions and tactical inadequacies meant that no matter how hard Secco worked, it was all ultimately in the hands of the silver haired Tinkerman. And although the latter was axed for Ciro Ferrara, Juventus still finished second and made progress on the previous campaign.

Now with Ferrara at the helm on a full-time basis, Secco finally has an ally. Having worked together for years, their understanding and relationship could pay off for the Turin giants. It could also change the fans’ opinion of the young Alessio.

The spectre of Marotta will inevitably continue to loom over Secco – especially with some reports insisting that the likeable Beppe has only postponed a move to Turin – but Secco has already given himself a fighting chance of succeeding following the captures of Diego and Fabio Cannavaro, as well as the likely capture of Gaetano D’Agostino. It could be the making of him…

He has certainly done very well at the start of this mercato, but anyone can see where we need improving and if those positions are not filled people will not be satisfied come September.
juve-vn
So how many good signings did he make? and how many bad ones? Is he suddenly being considered doing a good job by signing Diego? He gambled on some players and he gambled Juve's last season also...
JuveJay

Salute!

Obviously the proof is in the pudding, we are saluting a good mercato which, if what I hear is to be believed, has not yet finished. However if any of the buys flop then questions get asked, but for now, the club and managers have been able to bring in quality that was missing. They stuck to their guns and didn't want to pay more than £15m for D'Agostino and refused to give Udinese any of our young stars because that is the value they gave him, and then went out and spent £21.5m on Felipe Melo because he is a better investment at his age and at least as good a player.

From Juventuz.com:

QUOTE

(TuttoSport)

Some guy called him and told him he wanted to kill himself and Alessio called the cops and they arrived in time. He later thanked Secco for saving his life.

Secco: «Trezeguet is staying»

«Trezeguet will be with us even this year, I am practically sure». Alessio Secco swept away any doubts. The sports director met with journalists this morning to speak about the transfer market.
«Juventus are very happy to keep Trezeguet. If he had to come to us to be transferred and came along with an interesting offer for all parties, we might take it into consideration. This is the agreement we have with him and his agent. At the end of the last championship he had made us understand that if the right offer came he would have considered a possible transfer. It must also be said that, see the situation of the transfer market and his salary, it is not that easy to find a team of his level. We have not received any offers up to now. There was only some interest shown by foreign clubs but they did not present interesting proposals. Clearly, if he had to leave, we would have to buy another attacker but one with his characteristics would be hard to find. This is why we are not looking for buyers: we think that he can still give much to Juventus and we do not have the necessity to sell him. If the situation had to change David would not be transferred to any Italian teams. Anyway my feeling is that Trezeguet will stay with us».

On the other hand, the Frenchman is training with great professionalism and has already scored two goals in the pre-season matches against Cisco Roma and Vicenza: : «He is working well and giving all on the field. – continued Secco – On Friday he did not play against Seville because he suffered a light blow to the knee during training in the morning and therefore his absence was agreed on with the coach».

From one attacker to the next, from Trezeguet to Amauri. The Brazilian, sent-off against Vicenza, immediately made-up by scoring against Seville: «Amauri immediately apologized to the coach and his mates after the mat6ch against Vicenza. The day after I called him to my office and he also apologized to the club. This year we made important investments and we must make sure they bear fruit and therefore we must be careful when it comes to behaviour and regulations and recreate that style that was a winning one for so many years. Amauri understood, that even though he was provoked, he made a mistake and made-up in the match against Seville with an excellent performance».

Going back to outgoing transfers, the other name which was recently always spoken of is that of Christian Poulsen who, like Almiron, was not called-up for the match in Spain:
«I spoke to Poulsen’s agent last week and he asked me for a few days to consider the situation. If he were to decide to stay, we would not bandage our heads but we spoke to him clearly and the fact that he was not called-up for the tournament in Spain was a clear signal. The player has many requests especially from English teams».

The transfer of Poulsen is linked to the possible arrival of Caceres from Barcelona: «We like Caceres and we are not trying to hide that but the deal has not yet been concluded. We feel the team is already complete even though his eventual arrival would be the cherry on the cake. For this to happen other situation with regards to other players must be solves, Poulsen in particular. However, if we sign Caceres it would be on loan».

Juve therefore, is not stopping. It is a sign of a healthy club, and this especially significant in a time when other realities are forcing teams to limit themselves on the transfer market: «The events of 2006 allowed us to anticipate the crisis which others are currently going through and this allowed for the spending of approximately 50 million. A shift in balance? The field will say. Many spent just enough to fix their balance. We, on the other hand, even though we spent a lot, will break even, even if we do not sell anyone».

Another merit of the club management is the speed with which they acted on the transfer market, bringing home three great players like Cannavaro, Diego and Felipe Melo: «When the opportunity to bring back Cannavaro to Turin came up, we thought it was an opportunity we should take because besides what he is capable of doing on the field he will also bring a winning mentality. Fabio is a healthy carrier. Apart from him however, I would not take back any of the players who left in the summer of 2006. With regards to Diego, we moved in time and it is a good thing we did, otherwise we would have probably paid much more for him seeing the vicious circle which was created in price terms. Melo was expensive? It is true, but at the end of the day the price of a player is relative when compared to the input on the field. Seeing for example, the price of Xabi Alonso, I would say that Melo did not cost much. On the other hand, having a release clause, Fiorentina would have never sold him to Juventus for a lower price».

The Brazilian joined Juventus after that for some time it seemed like the midfielder Juventus were about to buy was D’Agostino: «We did not allude him. We were interested in him and we think his evaluation was in line with our offer. When we understood we should spend more money we turned on to Melo, a different but more functional player for our project. I think he has a better presence and physique on the field. D’Agostino is perhaps more technically talented but we believe that Melo can give more. With him we added kilos and centimetres but also quality to our midfield».

The signings were made. Now it is up to Ferrara to make them render as much as possible: «I am very happy with Ferarra. A lot of work is being done but in the right spirits: there is happiness and serenity. A good group is being formed and the merit also goes to his collaborator. Juve must get back to thinking big: they must have to want to win even the friendlies and the trophies with no official value. We must bring back the winning mentality and get angry even when we lose a friendly. In these last few years this spirit had dwindled and now is the time to revive it».

---------------------

Forgot to post this a few days ago but they certainly seem to be doing things the right way.

That is pretty amazing really, considering our wage bill, small stadium which we do not own and outlay over the last couple of years. When the stadium is built, a stadium which is ours and we take 100% of revenue from, then the club will be in a strong financial position. However the team needs to be competitive to ensure that club moves forward, fills the stadium and continues to grow.

How opinion of this man has changed, responsible for the best mercato in the league. The only question you can possibly put against this mercato was the fee for Felipe Melo, but any club who wanted him had to pay his buyout clause, as Arsenal will tesify. Juve did that, and threw in Marchionni to lessen the deal, well done Secco clap.gif

Shame about Bettega, if he is indeed going to be completely 'out', because he was a legend.
