Italy Under-21 boss Pierluigi Casiraghi will be closely following the climax of the Primavera season in order to scout talent ahead of the summer’s European Championship.

The semi-finals will see Chievo taking on Genoa and Palermo facing Viareggio champions Juventus.

“I believe Juve will win the title because they seem to have a bit more quality than the others. Ciro Immobile is a natural goal scorer while Lello Ariaudo has got great personality – he is ready for the top-flight,” briefed Casiraghi ahead of the games.

Unfortunately nothing is certain in youth football and Genoa are always ultra competitive at this level, should be interesting, just nice to see the Azzurrini coach recognising how much talent this Primavera team has.

Milan won the home leg of the Berretti final 2-1 to win 4-1 on aggregate, Juve had Silvestri sent off as well. Curcio with the Juve goal.

What a joke though, Milan were playing many Primavera players and they were overall much older than Juve. We hadn't even got one guy with a Primavera appearance, Milan had got guys with first team appearances. Why was that allowed? Perhaps Juve could do that too but played the team that got them there so fair play to the coaches and the young lads who did well.

MILAN: Miskiewicz, Fondrini, Albertazzi, Romagnoli, De Vito, Brandi, Strasser, Gianola, Oduamadi, Angelilli, Schenetti.

JUVENTUS: Piccolo, Romano, Crivello, Silvestri, Proietti, Ferrero, Bisceglie, Enrico, Curcio, Elcastro, Carta.

Juventus-Palermo 1-3
Marcatori: 46' Misuraca (P), 47' e 55' Hernandez (P), 57' rig. Yago (J)
Espulso: De Paola (J)

Chievo e Palermo in semifinale, Genoa e Juventus eliminate.

Disappointing for the Primavera, when De Paola went and Palermo scored the pen that was the game done, sad to go out that way but with a full side these lads are a match for anyone. I look forward to seeing where some of the stars are next season, out on loan etc as there are 6 or 7 in here who could play at least Serie B level right now, most in Serie A.

Palermo won the Primavera title in the end. They brought the Uruguayan striker Hernandez in during the end of the season and he has made the difference, he is first team quality really but ended Juve's hopes and guided Palermo to the title, no-one knew much about him previously so Palermo were very clever to use him in this way.

Luciano Bruni is the new Primavera coach

The Primavera turns over a new leaf. Following the promotion of Massimiliano Maddaloni to deputy-coach of the first team, as from today the main team of the youth nursery has a new coach. It is Luciano Bruni, a coach of immense experience at youth level.

Born in Livorno on the 24th of December 1960, Bruni has a long sports curriculum both as player and as coach.

Brought up in the Fiorentina youth sector (with whom he won the Viareggio Tournament), he began his carreer in the Serie A with the viola for which he played till 1981. After two seasons in the Serie B with Pistoiese and Reggiana he was transferred to Verona contributing to the historical 1984/85 scudetto. At the end of the 1980s he returned to Tuscany where he spent his last seasons playing for Lucchese, Siena, Arezzo and Castelfiorentino.

In 1997 he began his career as coach at the Scuola Calcio Firenze Sud.. A year later he was transferred to Fiorentina where he took a new path which brought him to coach in various categories: Esordienti, Allievi Nazionali and Primavera. After a short parenthesis as coach of the Rondinella first team in Serie D, he returned to working with youths, spending one season as coach of the Siena Primavera and then of Piacenza. Last season he was the deputy of Remondina at Hellas Verona which ended the season in seventh place of the Lega Pro 1 A (former C1 Girone A).

As from today, Bruni has become part of the Juventus youth sector where he once again meets Renzo Castagnini (with whom he had shared the Piacenza experience) and meets Gianluca Pessotto for the first time. With the latter he has a past at Verona in common even though during different seasons. «Coaching the Juventus Primavera is of great satisfaction – he declared on Juventus Channel – and for this reason I thank the directors who chose me. I managed to speak to Castagnini and Pessotto and we were immediately on the same wavelength on the programme to adopt». The Primavera will return to work during the training camp In Chiusa Pesio.

Primavera: 1-1 against Inter, but the result is under judicial scrutiny

After the defeat on the day before against Roma, Bruni’s Primavera returned on the field for the “Tirreno e Sport” tournament which saw Juventus playing against Inter in Bracciano. The bianconeri played a good match, especially in the first half while in the second half exhaustion left a mark. Yago’s goal, which put the bianconeri ahead, was equalised by an-own goal by Bamba. The match ended in a 1-1 draw but the result is under judicial scrutiny with the verdict expected on Wednesday morning.

How does that even happen dunno.gif How did Inter loose track of the number of subs they made, but more importantly how did the refs loose track?

The Primavera ruins Genoa’s feast

Things get serious and the real Primavera emerges. The era of Luciano Bruni starts on the right footing and on the first day of the championship, the team immediately registered a prestigious result. The match away to Genoa, holders of the Coppa Italia and fresh from success in the Super Cup, was not an easy one but the bianconeri immediately left their mark.

On the synthetic field of Cogoleto the match ended 1-0. To decide the match was Giuseppe Giovinco who scored from a free-kick close to the half hour of the first half. De Paola and Silvestri were absent due to suspension but the coach from Livorno had Fausto Rossi back. The midfielder finally returned to the field following the operation to his ankle undergone in Summer.

Having concluded the first match in the best of manners, now Juventus is expected to play an equally difficult second match. Next Saturday, for the home debut at the Chisola, the bianconeri will host Siena, finalist of the last championship and one of the most equipped teams.

That weakened Juve team beat Livorno 4-0 in the last game of the group in Viareggio, to come out with a 3-0-0 (11-1) record, good stuff. Two from Fischnaller, and one each from Libertazzi and Belcastro.

-------------------------------------------

Real problems in other parts of the tournament though, Sampdoria were playing Club National of Paraguay in freezing sleety conditions and five players had to be treated for hypothermia including the Nacional goalkeeper who collapsed unconscious, very poor stuff to allow the lads to play in that.

Juventus qualify from Girone 1, which also contained Livorno, Legia Warsaw (POL) and Vicenza.

Inter have qualified from Girone 2 with best runners up the Serie D Representatives, which also contained APIA Leichhardt Tigers (AUS) and FK Jedinstvo (SER).

Torino have qualified from Girone 3, which also contained Bologna, Maccabi Haifa (ISR) and LIAC of New York (USA).

Girone 4 is still to be decided, after that game between Sampdoria and Club National was abandoned, the group also contains Siena and Gremio (BRA).

Empoli have qualified from Girone 5, which also contained Mantova, Kaposvari Rakoczi Footbal Club (HUN) and Olbia.

Palermo and best runners up Sassuolo have qualified from Girone 6, which also contained Pergocrema and Spartak Moscow (RUS).

Groups 7-12 still have one more game to play.

QUOTE
Luciano Bruni: “We knew that the game wouldn’t be the easiest, because Cesena proved in the group stages to be a very well organized side. We had perhaps the luck to go ahead, but then conceded stupidly an equalizer. I liked the courage of the team to press on after conceding. The weather wasn’t exactly optimal. We don’t put limits on this team, and we live game-for-game. We have an excellent squad and the quality still yet to show.

Stefano Protti: “We played a good game. We were able to equalize, but Immobile scored a great goal and we went behind again. We wanted to keep the game in balance, but then there was a penalty given that I didn’t like at all. If we were to play a team a bit inferior, then we’d be able to cope with it, but against Juventus that was not possible. Without the penalty, perhaps we could have played to win, but it closed the match. Fiorentina and Juventus are great teams, Fiorentina is more compact and disciplined, but the Bianconeri have a lot of individual quality that Fiorentina lack.”

Individual quality is more important to us as a club, we need quality to come through, rather than extremely disciplined teams. I think we have a good balance of both, but a very strong midfield and attack.

Good for the lads to get to the semis, now anything can happen. The last four teams are always a pretty similar level, very strong. Blog: Carnival Kings

Juventus may be struggling in Serie A this season but, as Steve Mitchell writes, their kids are still a force to be reckoned with after Viareggio victory

Over the past two weeks, the beautiful city of Viareggio has played host to the world’s biggest youth football tournament. The Coppa Carnevale, so called due to the fact that it is fought for during the city’s carnival season, has once again provided some unforgettable moments.

Renowned for unearthing some of the games most famous stars, the 62nd edition of this football extravaganza may have given fans of calcio an early view of some outstanding talents.

A total of 48 teams from 18 different countries took part with 29 of these coming from the peninsula. Juventus were strongly fancied to retain their title and they eased through to the knock-out phase thanks to the sublime talents of striker Ciro Immobile, who knocked in a brace on the opening day against Legia Warsaw from Poland.

Both Milan clubs safely negotiated their way into the last 16 as did Napoli, Palermo, Torino and Genoa.

Roma qualified as one of the four best runners up, with their young starlet Stefano Pettinari inspirational for the Giallorossi as they beat Cisco Roma 4-1 in their final group game to sneak into the knock-out phase. However, Pettinari’s second yellow card received in that game and his subsequent suspension would prove costly.

The biggest surprise of the last 16 was that of a Serie D representative side. Made entirely of amateur players from Italy’s fifth tier, they defied all logic by qualifying for the latter stages. The only overseas team to make it into the knock-out phase were Club Nacional from Uruguay.

The round of the last 16 signalled the end of the road for Roma, both Milan giants and Genoa, who succumbed to the Serie D boys. Juventus powered on, as did Fiorentina, Empoli Palermo, Atalanta, Torino and Sassuolo.

Immobile then propelled Juve into the last four, a brilliant free-kick from Atalanta’s Manolo Gabbiadini broke Palermo hearts, the amateurs beat Torino on penalties and Empoli edged out their Tuscan neighbours Fiorentina to complete the semi-final quartet.

Juventus beat Atalanta 2-0 in the first semi-final, an Immobile penalty finally breaking the Nerazzurri’s stubborn resistance and Empoli ended the amateurs’ dream after a tense penalty shoot-out.

The Final belonged to one man, Immobile, whose hat-trick helped his team to a 4-2 victory and their fifth Coppa Carnevale in eight years. He also collected the Golden Boy award for Player of the Tournament.

The talent scouts will now return to their respective clubs to give valuable feedback on what they have witnessed over the past 14 days. Viareggio has once again provided a signpost to the future.

Primavera: an unstoppable Giovinco against Sassuolo

In the first match after the triumph in the Viareggio Cup, Bruni’s team started on a great leg in the championship. Sassuolo beaten 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick by Giuseppe.

Less then a week after the triumph in the Viareggio Cup, The Primavera continued on the high wave and got back to the championship with a bang. Away in Sassuolo, one of the victims in the Coppa Carnevale, Bruni’s team won with a resounding 3-0. The great protagonist was Giuseppe Giovinco, who scored a fantastic hat-trick.

The coach allowed most of the protagonists of Monday’s final against Empoli to rest (including birthday boy Immobile, 20 today), giving the chance to those who had less opportunities to show their worth. The result was more then satisfactory and the team continued in the best of manners their way at the head of the table while waiting to return to playing even in the Coppa Italia with the two-legged semi-final against Palermo.

Primavera, 2-2 against Cagliari

The weekend of matches between Juventus and Cagliari started with a draw. Besides the first team, which will be playing on Sunday at the Olimpico in Turin, even the Primavera played at the Assemini in a match valid for the 10th match day of the category’s championship. The final result was 2-2, which left a bad taste for Bruni’s boys who following a two goal advantage thanks to Esposito and Serino, had to play with one player less for over 70 minutes: Silvestri was sent-off on the 19th minute of the first half for a last man foul and the islanders managed to equalise.

The draw, however, does not stop Juventus from maintaining the head of the table.

----------------------------------------

Giovanissimi Professionisti: only runners-up

After a tournament played at a high level, the Giovanissimi Professionisti lost in the final against Torino, after penalties. At the end of the 90 minutes and extra time which ended in a 0-0 draw and during which the bianconeri notwithstanding a good performance did not manage to score from the opportunities created, the match went to penalties. Two errors by the bianconeri against one by the granata saw the latter winning 4-3. The Giovanissimi Professionisti of Juventus thus ended their participation in the Manchester United Premier Cup as runners-up.

Primavera, Juventus-Brescia on Wednesday

In order to continue the race to the Scudetto of the category and win a place in the final eight, the Primavera will have to beat Brescia. This is what came out of the draws held this afternoon at the Lega Calcio in Milan.

Luciano Bruni’s team, second in its group, will be playing against the team from Lombardia who palced 5th in Group B. It was an iron-strong group with teams of the calibre of Inter and Milan and important realities at youth level such as Chievo and Atalanta, to quote the other teams that qualified.

The “rondinelle” ended the elimination phase with 47 points in 26 matches, thanks to 14 victories, 5 draws and 7 defeats. The coach is Giampaolo Saurini.

The first leg will be played on Saturday 8th May in Brescia with the return match at the Chisola in Vinovo on Thursday 13th. Whoever goes through will qualify for a place in the quarter-finals on schedule in the Marche region on the 1st and 8th of June.

The Primavera went out of the Campionato playoffs, losing 3-2 in Brescia in the first leg and then only managing a 1-1 draw at home despite some good chances to get the clincher.

More importantly though, there looks to be some good talent who hopefully we will see soon.

Ciro Immobile, Fausto Rossi, Iago, Manuel Giandonato, Luca Marrone, Luca Belcastro, Giuseppe Giovinco, Simone Esposito, Andrea De Paola and Carlo Pinsoglio all look like players who have good futures in the game, a couple may even make it at Juve.
