Youth Super Cup, a super Pasquato

Tradition was the victor once again. When Juventus and Inter Milan's youth teams meet, the black and white colours always come out on top. The 2007 Super Cup final will be added to the long list of victories against the Nerazzurri which until now included, just taking into account recent years, two Italian Cup finals, last year's Super Cup final and the quarter final of the Champions Youth Cup in Malaysia.

It finished 2-0, exactly like in Kuala Lumpur. The hero of this latest triumph was Pasquato. He'd already scored the second during the match in August, and this time he opened the scoring with a fantastic free kick after 55 minutes; it was a... Giovinco-style effort, emphasising the fact that he’ll most probably be the one to follow in the footsteps of the ‘little big wonder’. Essabr then finalized the triumph in the dying seconds of the match.

Youth Team Italian Cup run over

The most difficult period of the Youth Team's season continues. After going out of the Viareggio Tournament in the second round, and losing against Spezia when the League restarted, the Bianconeri bid farewell to another of their seasonal objectives. Indeed their Italian Cup run is now over.

Chiarenza's boys, who are the trophy's holders, were eliminated in the quarter finals. After drawing 1-1 in Vinovo in late January, they lost 3-1 at Atalanta despite a very generous performance. Once again it was Bottone who scored the goal which opened up the game again, setting the score to 2-1, but not long after that the boys from Bergamo got their third goal, which effectively ended the match.

Now the Bianconeri have only the League left to concentrate on; already from Saturday, when Bologna pay a visit to the Vinovo ground. Juve must maintain their leading position, earned thanks to a great string of wins between mid-November and mid-January.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I think the exit at Viareggio has affected the lads confidence, they thought of themselves as one of the favourites but now it's only the League left. Spezia have a good youth team but it isn't as good as Juve, a disapoointing exit.

Youth team win derby at the last gasp

A riveting derby saw Vincenzo Chiarenza's Youth Team win at their ground in Vinovo. 2–1 was the final result and the match followed a classic derby script: Juventus were in charge and scored after about ten minutes from kick off thanks to Essabr, who exploited a mistake by Torino keeper Gomis to tap in from close range. The Granata equalized in the first half, on penalty, but the real excitement came in the second half: Torino lost first one man, when Capellupo was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, and then another, when D’Onofrio got the red card for a nasty tackle on D’Elia. The match looked set for a draw, but in the dying seconds of injury time Pasquato put the ball inside the box, Gomis didn't hold on to it and Bottone was quick to pounce on it and score the goal that's worth victory in the derby and first place in the table.

Youth Team to face AC Milan in play-offs

It'll be Juventus vs. AC Milan: this was the outcome of the draw for the first Youth Team play-off round.

Chiarenza's team, who topped Group A by winning Sunday's game against Pisa, will face the Rossoneri, who played in Group B.

The round is played across two matches. The side coached by Filippo Galli will host the first match, next Saturday. The return match at the Chisola in Vinovo will be played the week after. The team that goes through will take part in the finals, scheduled between the 2nd and 8th of June near Chieti.

The two rivals have already met this season in a prestigious tournament. Indeed Juventus and AC Milan clashed in the Champions Youth Cup semi-final last summer in Malaysia, when the Bianconeri won 2-1.

The Primavera ended up losing to Fiorentina today 2-1 in the quarter finals of the Primavera championship, shame for the lads really because they have had a great season finishing first in their group and there are some talented lads there, but Fiorentina are a top youth side also and the format is cruel but that's the way it goes.

Incidentally that Chinese lad Yang Yun from South China FC joined up with the Primavera squad to have a look at him.

The Primavera completes the job : 3-0 against Torino

A weekend in black and white. Two derbies within a few hours and two Juventus victories. After the 1-0 victory obtained by the first team, Massimiliano Maddaloni’s primavera repeated the feat during the Sunday match at the Chisola of Vinovo beating the granata coached by Beppe Scienza 3-0.

A clean-cut victory, built around a key incident during the first half. A foul in the penalty area by Cagnasso at the expense of Daud : penalty and send-off for the granata player who received his second yellow card. Esposito scored from the 11 meter mark. In the second half, with the guests a man short, the bianconeri added to the score sheet thanks to the goal by Immobile and an own-goal by Benedetti following a personal manoeuvre by Yago on his debut.

The victory obtained in the derby is the third consecutive win by Juventus who remain at the top of the table while waiting to make their debut in the Coppa Italia at Bologna on Wednesday.

At the end of the match Maddaloni commented clearly satisfied: «We couldn’t have had a better start with three consecutive victories and with 8 goals in favour and none against. We are obviously happy with this success in an important and greatly anticipated match».

Primavera get fourth win in a row

The Primavera aren't missing a beat in this early part of the season. After three consecutive wins in the League (the last on Sunday, in the derby), Massimiliano Maddaloni's lads have started off great in the Italian Cup too.

In Bologna, where just 10 days ago they'd won large by 4-0, the Bianconeri got another win. This time it was a less impressive 2-1 result, but no less important. First of all because it came in a game where Juve were missing several players and then for the spirit the lads showed in coming back from being one goal down (a penalty) and going on to win with goals by Immobile and Daud.

This win will probably ensure Juventus a place in the quarter finals. The return game, scheduled in two weeks' time in Vinovo, will be decisive in order to clinch the deal and go through.

Primavera marches on...

Massimiliano Maddaloni’s boys continued where they left off registering yet another victory, the fourth in as many matches. The bianconeri in fact beat Piacenza away 4-3 sharing their position at the top of the table with Sampdoria who beat Siena by 1-0.

The boys in black and white went ahead by two goals thanks to Marrone and Yago but had to suffer the equaliser by the opponents, only to go ahead once more thanks to Castiglia and Esposito.

Sunday 9th November sees the two teams in a direct encounter which could mean the top of the table for Maddaloni’s boys.

Primavera at the top of the table

Maddaloni’s Primavera won the direct encounter against Sampdoria thanks to a goal by Immobile and is now sole leader of the championship. Great game by the bianconeri who deserved the victory in the match played at the Chisola Stadium of Vinovo.

Great first half with a good number of chances for Maddaloni’s boys who went ahead at the 38th minute: great action by Yago who dished out a cross towards Immobile who headed home. During the first part of the match Juventus created eight other dangerous occasions. During the second half the injured Daud was substituted by Curcio , however Juventus continued to dominate the match with Sampdoria trying to react and finally hitting the post on the 33rd minute. This was the only real occasion created by Sampdoria who did not threaten the goal defended by Pinsoglio further.

Primavera, draw in Livorno

The appointment with the first victory of 2009 was once again postponed. The Primavera returned from Livorno with a 1-1 draw which does not make anybody happy.

The Juventus goal was scored by Giuseppe Giovinco but what also had its weight on the result was an Immobile goal which was disallowed at the end of the first half when the result was already 1-1. This is the second time for the attacker after the one on Wednesday against Empoli.

The Tuscan team in fact took advantage of the result by winning the derby against Siena and climbing to the top of the table. For the first time since the beginning of the season Maddaloni’s team has had to surrender the leadership even though the margin from the leaders is only that of one point.

Before thinking of the next match day (2nd day of the 2nd round) the team will play in the Coppa Italia. On Wednesday 21st January the team will play away to Cagliari in a match valid for the first leg of the quarter-finals.

Primavera, one foot in the semi-final

The Primavera returned to victory (the first of 2009) on the right occasion, the first leg of the Coppa Italia quarter-final against Cagliari. In the first of the two encounters, played in Sardegna, Maddaloni’s team won by 3-1 making a serious step towards the qualification to the semi-final.

The game was resolved in the first half with a goal scored by Immobile and two goals by Yago. The Sardinian side scored a consolation goal at the end of the match making the return match slightly more interesting. The return match will be played at the Chisola in Vinovo in two weeks time, or rather on Wednesday 4th February.

The Chisola will also be the stage of the next match of the bianconeri. Saturday afternoon will see the home match against Bologna valid for the second match day of the second round. The team from Emilia have already been beaten 3 times by the bianconeri this season (twice of which during the previous round of the Coppa Italia) and the Primavera will thus be seeking the poker.

The Primavera is back to business. After having beaten Cagliari last week and putting one foot in the Coppa Italia semi-final, Maddaloni’s team got back on track also in the championship.

In order to do this it was once again Bologna to pay the price. The fourt seasonal encounter resulted in the fourth victory for the bianconeri. At the “Torta” in Giaveno the end result was 2-0 with a goal per half by Immobile and Esposito.

The best way to enter into derby atmosphere. Next Sunday (live on Sky Sport) is the day of the derby (return match). This time away to Torino after the heavy 3-0 victory obtained during the first round at the Chisola.

Primavera, good start in front of Ranieri

The Primavera started the adventure in the 61st edition of the Viareggio Tournament, the most important youth trophy in the world, on the right leg. Maddaloni’s team began it’s march beating Maccabi Haifa 2-0 and immediately climbing to the top of Group 2 together with Parma (3-1 against Frosinone), the next opponent in Wednesday’s match.

Good start for Juventus and an even better start for Daud. The attacker deserves the front cover after scoring both of the goals in the first half taking advantage of Immobile and Rossi’s passes.

An important success under the keen eyes of an important spectator: Claudio Ranieri, the Juventus coach watched part of the match taking advantage of the free day granted to the team but most of all while waiting to be given an award by the tournament organizers. During the evening in Viareggio, the coach will receive the Gaetano Scirea award.

Besides Ranieri on the stands of the “Raciti” in Quarrata were also Paolo Benetti, Michelangelo Rampulla and Renzo Castagnini.

Viareggio Cup: Juventus march on

Juventus showed they meant business right from the start. In fact the first saw the bianconeri clearly superior to Parma going close to scoring on a number of occasions thanks to Immobile, Esposito and Daud. Particularly good attempt on the 15th minute when a Rossi free-kick saw the ball put brilliantly into the area with Immobile trying to put the ball in the back of the net and being denied so only by the Parma goalkeeper who performed nothing short of a miracle.

The second half saw Parma try to react but Massimiliano Maddaloni’s boys kept control of the match going close to opening the score a number of times. It was however on the 75th minute that Daud put the ball at the back of Gasparri’s net with a conclusion similar to one of the two scored in the first match against Maccabi Haifa. The rest of the match saw the bianconeri going close to their second goal a number of times.

With the victory against Parma, Juventus are now sole-leaders of Group 2 putting series weight on the qualification to the next round. In the other match Maccabi Haifa beat Frosinone 2-1.

Maddaloni’s boys will play their final match in the group stage against Frosinone on Friday.

Viareggio, Juventus-Sampdoria in the final

The third derby of the season is also the third victory of Juventus against Turin. This last one however was the most difficult encounter but also the most important. Even on neutral turf Maddaloni’s team confirmed its superiority and beat the team coached by Scienza. The final result was not 3-0 like in the two championship matches but a 3-1 which resulted decisive to reach the final of the 61st edition of the Viareggio Cup. The final will be played on Monday and will see Juventus opposed to Sampdoria.

At the “Raciti” in Quarrata, Juventus fielded the same formation that beat Siena with the only difference being Esposito who replaced an injured Ekdal. The bianconeri started off well and immediately went close to scoring with Immobile who was only stopped from doing so by a miracle performed by granata goalkeeper Pascarella who played instead of the suspended Gomis. The attacker however made up with a goal scored on the 35th minute after a pass by Daud.

The result at the end of the first half is that of 1-0. In the second half, Daud went immediately close to the second goal while Pirrotta and Duravia came on for Marrone and Yago. Torino equalised on the 24th minute with a goal scored by Comi who headed home but Juventus reacted immediately and on the half hour went ahead again thanks to another goal by Immobile who deposited the ball in the net after a good projectile by Duravia. This is not the end however and there is no derby without a third goal: the usual Daud saw to this after a good initiative by D’Elia. This was the 7th goal of the tournament for the Somali player who confirmed himself as top-scorer.

The end result was that of 3-1 with the third goal in fact being scored 10 minutes before the end. The news of the victory of Sampdoria over Inter in the other semi-final immediately made the bianconeri aware of their opponents in the final. The big match will be played on Monday at the “Pini” stadium and will see Maddaloni’s team opposed to the current Italian champions.

Primavera triumphs in the Viareggio Cup!

At the “Pini di Viareggio” stadium the bianconeri seemed to be determined and very concentrated right from the start. The bianconeri were dangerous in a number of occasions especially thanks to Daud and Esposito but the opener came on the 13th minute when Daud put a ball into the Sampdoria area with unfortunate defender Perazzo deviating badly for an own goal. The blucerchiati did not give up and tried to fight back but the most dangerous attacks were always on the other side of the field with Samp goalkeeper Fiorillo performing a number of very good saves. A few minutes before the end of the half the bianconeri increased the score margin thanks to D’Elia who put the ball through into the area with immobile striking home. Up to the half-ftime whistle Maddaloni’s boys ahd two more good chances thanks to daud with Fiorillo showing great class in his saves.

The second half saw Juventus score their third nearly immediately: Daud with a beautiful projectile upon entering the area hammered the ball into the corner of the net. This is the 8th goal by the Somali midfielder in this tournament who six minutes later tried twice more with the Sampdoria defence managing to clear at the end. Maddaloni’s team continued to dominate even though the blucerchiati were constantly in search of a goal to re-open the match. Sampdoria managed to get one back on the 38th minute after a slight deviation by Daud on a free-kick by Di Leva. Just before the final whistle Immobile dribbled past Fiorillo, voted best goalkeeper of the tournament and deposited the ball at the back of the net to fix the final score on 4-1.

Maddaloni’team has won Juventus their 6th Viareggio Cup after the successes in 1961, 1994, 2003, 2004 and 2005 with the coach becoming the first ever native of Viareggio to win the trophy.

Primavera, a victory in the name of Boniperti

Juventus win thanks to Boniperti. It is not the title to an article recounting a past victory but the commentary on today’s Primavera match. Maddaloni’s team (the coach was suspended and replaced on the bench by Dodo Sormani) beat Modena 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick by Filippo Boniperti, born in 1991, and strong point of the Berretti team as well as grandson of the honorary president.

The youngster left a great impact on the match coming on a few minutes into the second half and changing things round. Three goals and each one different from the other: from a corner with a turning shot, a shot from outside the area and thanks to a lucky re-bound after having hit the post.

Three goals and three golden points for the Primavera, which returned to victory after Viareggio, maintaining the leadership, independently of the results of their rivals.

The match also brought good news for Claudio Ranieri: Dario Knezevic played the whole match contributing to the defensive phase.

And now on with the next match. On Wednesday, again at the Chisola, the bianconeri will host Roma for the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final. The 2-2 result in the first leg at Trigoria gives a slight advantage to the bianconeri which they will have to thank advantage of to make it to the last act of the trophy.

Primavera, assault on the Coppa Italia

The Primavera is far from being easily satisfied. Less then a month from the victory in the 61st edition of the Viareggio Cup, Maddaloni’s team wants to reach another final: that of the Coppa Italia.

After the 2-2 tie obtained a week ago at Trigoria, the bianconeri will host Roma in the afternoon in a match valid for the second leg of the semi-final. Kick-off is scheduled for 14:00hrs at the Chisola stadium in Vinovo. It will be transmitted live on Sky Sport 1.

The team who reaches the final will have to wait for the outcome of the matches between Milan and Genoa which will be played on the 25th of March and the 1st of April.

As opposed to Saturday’s championship match against Modena and the one on Saturday coming against Empoli, Maddaloni will be back on the bench and will also be able to count on Daud and Esposito who are both serving the suspensions received ten days ago against Genoa, as well as on Ariaudo. Only Ekdal will miss the match due to injury.

Primavera, cup hopes fade away…

The dream of a “grand slam” faded away at its best moment. Less then a month after the triumph in the Viareggio Cup, the Primavera said goodbye to the Coppa Italia and in the strangest of manners. Against Roma, in the 2nd leg of the semi-final, the team did not manage to take advantage of the 2-2 obtained in Rome and said goodbye to its cup hopes. At the Chisola the match ended 2-0 for the giallorossi who took advantage of a shocking start to the match making the encounter theirs.

The story of the match lasted 11 minutes in reality, just the time for Mladen and Tovalieri (son of Sandro a well known striker in the 80s and 90s) to score one each and put a heavy weight on the match.

In the remaining 80 minutes (plus stoppage time), the bianconeri attacked in search of extra-time at least. Together with Immobile, Esposito, Rossi and Daud, came on Yago – for an injured Marrone and Giovinco.

Daud hit an incredible post in the first half and goalkeeper Frasca and his colleagues in the defence did the rest.

Juventus bids farewell to the Coppa Italia just one step away from the final. Roma proceed and will now await the winner between Genoa and Milan. The first round of the double-challenge went to the giallorossi and it is now up to Ranieri’s team to even the bill.

Primavera, one good point against Empoli

In a group dominated by five teams, all within a three point margin, the direct encounters are endless. Juventus managed to leave another mark. After having played against Sampdoria and Genoa and awaiting Siena, Juventus drew a line on Empoli.

In Tuscany, the bainconeri played better then the hosts but did not manage to score and the match ended in a goalless draw. With Sormani still on the bench (Maddaloni was in his second day of suspension) and without suspended Daud and Esposito as well as Castiglia who was called up with the first team, the Primavera managed to make another step forward even though they had to abandon the head of the table temporarily.

Siena beat Piacenza to go first, two points ahead of Juventus but the bianconeri have one game in hand against the Piacentini themselves. There is some news with regards to this match. It has in fact been postponed from the 25th of March due to the call-up of Ariaudo and Immobile to Italy’s Under21 squad.

The match will be played on the 9th of April at the Chisola in Vinovo. The same stadium will also host the next match of the bianconeri on the 28th of March against Parma.

Empoli 0-0 Juventus

Youth sector results. Apart from the Primavera even Berretti, Allievi and Giovanissimi Regionali win

Besides the beautiful victory of the Primavera against Parma, which put Maddaloni’s boys back at the top of the table in joint first place with Sampdoria and a game in hand, three other formations from the youth sector also ended the weekend with maximum points. The Berretti team beat Canavese 5-2, the Allievi Nazionali won the derby by 3-1 and the Giovanissimi Regionali beat Barcanova Salus 6-1.

Allievi Nazionali drew 0-0 against Alessandria, Giovanissimi Profesionisti drew 1-1 against Genoa and the Giovanissimi Sperimentali drew 0-0 against Valenzana.

Primavera: 3-0 signed Yago (twice) e Daud

Great Juventus victory by Juventus Primavera against Parma on the Vinovo field.

The end result was 3-0 with two goals by Yago and another by Daud who came back from suspension. The first half was nothing special but the second saw the Juventus we were accustomed to see a month ago: strong, wilful and determined. Ariaudo also played for most of the match (coming off in the last 15 minutes).

The defender is ready to join the Under 21 squad again. The next championship matches for the Primavera are both home matches: on Saturday against Pisa and on the following Thursday (9th April) against Piacenza in a match which had been postponed

Juventus 3-0 Parma
Yago (2), Daud

Primavera, towards the finals

The long tour de force which has lasted since mid-May is nearly over. The Primavera is close to a time in which it may regain its breath. The championship will stop for Easter and for all this will be a chance to rest (especially those who spent a lot of energy in Viareggio) and to recharge the batteries in view of the end of the season.

This identikit fits Maddaloni’s team perfectly. After having triumphed in Viareggio, just missed the Coppa Italia final and maintained the place at the top of the group table, the bianconeri are ready for the final sprint before the break.

The programme foresees two home matches in five days. On Saturday 4th April, the bianconeri will host Pisa at the Chisola in a match valid for the 10th match day of the second round. On Thursday 9th it will be the turn of the match against Piacenza for the postponed match valid for the 4th match day of the second round. These are two important occasions for the Primavera to increase their leadership and put a heavy weight on the first place in Group A and assure a pole position at the beginning of the finals while awaiting the last matches against Grossto, Siena and Sassuolo.

These are however, also two stages in the nearing of the matches which will award the Scudetto. Massimiliano Maddaloni is convinced: «The success in Viareggio was not a mere chance but the crowning of all the work done in the previous period. Now we msut do the same. At this moment we are still finding our feet, altering between great performances and others which are not so convincing. We must take advantage of these last five matches before the finals to put everything in place».

In the last few days the Primavera has made to the news also for another reason: the presence of Yang Yun, the young Chinese player who is on a trial period with the team. The youngster is getting to know his team mates and in the meantime is also receiving the compliments of the coach: «I have been positively impressed – concluded Maddaloni -, he is a defender born in 1988, who has great quality and good physical stature. He is also valid with regards to speed and technique».

Primavera, poker against Pisa and sole leadership

Another step towards the championship finals. The Primavera took advantage even of the second of three consecutive matches scoring 4 times. A week after the 3-0 against Parma, came the 4-1 against Pisa. A poker which allows Maddaloni’s team to obtain
leadership, following the 2-2 draw in the Genoa derby. The chance to add to the adavntage will come on Thursday when the bianconeri will host Piacenza at the Chisola in a match which was postponed from the 4th match day of the second round.

Against Pisa an important and difficult (notwithstanding the result) was registered. It is enough to think that in the first half, the teams were still 1-1. The goal scored by Alcibiade at the beginning was equalised at the end of the first half by Quintieri.

In the second half it was a nice bit of action by Yago and a goal by Daud who took advantage of a mistake made by the guests’ defence that shifted the equilibrium. The other two goals came out of decisive errors. The first by Esposito, from a penalty won by Daud, and the second, by Ariaudo, to complete the day of glory for the central defenders.

Pisa 1-4 Juventus

Primavera, three steps to the great escape

It will be an even sweeter Easter for the Primavera. Maddaloni’s team took the best advantage and gained ground in Group A. All seemed to be easy during the postponed match against Piacenza valid for the 4th match day of the second round won by 3-0. The match was already resolved 20 minutes from the start thanks to two goals by Yago (two identical goals following passes from the right by Esposito and Serino). In the second half came the third goal by Esposito, who had missed a penalty in the initial minutes.

After the Mathematical certainty of qualification to the final phase obtained last week (the bianconeri are already sure of the a spot in the top five), the bianconeri are aimed with conviction for the first place. They are now 4 points above Siena, who they will meet on the 25th of April in Vinovo, 5 above Sampdoria , 6 above Empoli and 8 above Genoa. All this, three match days before the end of the regular phase. The championship will now stop for Easter and will be back on the Saturday 18th. For Juventus, the away match against Grossetto will represent the most classic of leaders vs last placed team.

In the meantime, all the team bid farewell to Yang Yun. The Chinese youngster completed his trial with the Primavera and will be returning home. He was satisfied with the experience and with having seen his team-mates, even if only for one day, win against Piacenza.

Worth having a read of this months Calcio Italia magazine. I haven't read it yet but as well as focusing on the young players already in the first team it looks like there will also be a feature on the Primavera judging on the front cover, players such as Daud, Immobile etc.

Primavera – the objective draws closer

The Primavera went on triumphantly even after Easter. Maddaloni’s team took advantage of the fixtures and won its fourth consecutive match. The match against the team which is currently last in the table, Grosseto, ended according to expectations: 0-2, thanks to goals by Immobile and Giovinco from a penalty.

The victory allows the bianconeri to maintain the leadership and improve it further. Siena drew at home against Parma and is now 6 points behind, one week before the direct encounter at the Chisola. Samp is now second five points behind Juve. With 180 minutes still to be played the goal – even though provisional – is really close.

Primavera wins the Group. Siena beaten 3-0

Maddaloni’s Primavera won its group one match before the end of the phase and is therefore through to the final phase. Against Siena, in Vinovo, the bianconeri dominated the match. Opening the score in the first half thanks to De Paola, Maddaloni’s boys had many other goal scoring occasions which they did not finish, however in the first minutes of the second half they managed to close the match with goals by Immobile and Esposito (the end result was 3-0).

The last championship match is on schedule for Friday 1st May away to Sassuolo.

Primavera, a step away from the final eight

The Primavera is keeping things up. After having led the table of their group as from the first match day, Maddaloni’s team drew close to the final phase of the championship beating Catania away by 4-2 in the first round of the final 16. Yago and Immobile scored two goals each.

This Sunday there was no Serie A at the Massimino even though the Catanesi had Morimoto and Scaccia in their line-up, two players who have already played in the top division. Notwithstanding this however Juve dominated. The Sicilians only managed to equalise the opener scored by Yago but when the Spaniard scored his second the bianconeri took off. Immobile completed the deed rendering the second goal by the home team useless. The 4-2 final result is worth more then half a ticket to the finals in Trento. On Saturday, in Vinovo the team must simply assert themselves of qualification.
